Hood Pins - Are They Truly Necessary?
Are hood pins REALLY needed for a carbon fiber hood? I just got in & installed my VIS carbon fiber hood, and it clicks / installs the exact same as the stock hood. Also, hood pins require you to drill a hole into the hood, right? So I would have to drill into the carbon fiber? If I can keep my carbon fiber hood on without having to install the hood pins, that's the route I'll go.

I have seen way too many CF hoods on the side of the road to suggest it. Normally it is the latch to hood connection that is the weak link when a little air gets under the hood and away you go, damage to the windshield roof, and hopefully it doesn't freak you out so much that you loose control. How much are the pins $10? Sounds like the cheapest insurance you will ever be able to buy!

overrated on our cars. see ngo's comments on weight.
Fact is most are heavier then OEM so you don't need them.

Pics of the hood
My hood has vents, I guess you can call them. How does this affect the air that gets under the hood that would take a CF hood and make it smash into your window and go flying off? Are the air vents going to make it a bigger problem or are they going to reduce the chances of that happening?

Hood pins are 0% needed.
Ricers like to make the cars look faster, so they put hood pins on them like old school muscle cars. The reason they had them back in the day is, they didnt have the latch assembly on the car...just the safety catch. They used them on the old cars in nascar, it was faster getting hood open and lighter.
So bottom line, hood pins are needed about as much as a ***** for a hood ornament. They both get the same point across in my opinion.

And I seriously just need to LOL at this nonsense. Unless you guys are hitting 600mph+, I dont think you have to worry about the hood flying off....

Hmm, I bet there is someone out there that thinks that would be a cool hood ornament. Hood pins are whatever. I don't think they are needed or incredibly dumb either. Some people like how they look, and will pay/do extra to install them. I personally don't care about them so I won't be using them with my soon-to-arrive CF hood, but it doesn't offend me if other people do. I do agree though about their usefulness other than looks, they don't do a damn thing that the OEM latch doesn't do already.
