Smile How do I remove factory Exhaust tips?

I'd like to have my husband replace my factory exhaust tips on my 04 RX/8 but he says he needed to remove the current ones and he can't figure out how to do that, any help?

I've read of people replacing the tips. If I recall, blow torch the old and re-weld the new...

I was hoping there was an easier way, I guess I should take it to a shop, he can rebuild a VW from the frame up but he can't figure this one out, or won't.

I hope I'm not the only one thinking this.... why would you want to replace the tips? I mean, as opposed to just replacing the entire exhaust? Going for the "coffee can" look without actually gaining performance?

the stock exhaust could be a little bigger. If you wanted the look w/o the sound or cost - it would be the way to go. As long as it's done tastefully

Remove the exhaust shrouds (be careful not to break the plastic tabs that hold them in)

Drop exhaust from rear hangers (x4) not sure if this will give you enough working room, if not remove exhaust from last hanger and cat.

Use portaban (portable ban saw) or hack saw and remove tips.

Post pics when done, I'd like to see.

New Tips

thankx for all your help, my hubby got the old ones off and the new ones on in less than an hour. No I don't have more power or a different sound but I don't need or want either. I just want it to look good, maybe if I were younger those things would matter but for now, it looks great.
