It hurts!!!

Well, the story kinda goes like this. I just bought my new (used) RX-8, I joy ride all day and then I go to my friends house. We hang out for a bit and it times to go - as I'm backing out of the drive way I back into her mailbox (It's pitch black outside and I swear I did not see it een though I was being careful). Anyway, I posted pictuers to show the damage and I want to know if the bumper can be fixed or if I need to get a new one. Oh yeah, there's a crack at the very bottom too.

New RX-8 owner - VERY ANGRY at self!!!

if its cracked your done.....you can try and repair it but the material is not gonna hold up to well and keep cracking.....its not like fiberglass....the paint where its crinkled can be re-done but a tear is over

Try to contact your sales person for referral on bumper repair. Based on the picture, it is very similar to parking lot damage in your local dealership.

I agree with the above poster. A good bumper guy can repair some minor tear damage to plastic bumpers. MY sister clipped a 4: steel channel and put a 3 corner gash in her bumper, I brought it to my work at the time and paid the guy like $100 cash to melt it back together, add some filler and paint it. It's been 2+ years and I don't think that I have even seen the paint crack yet... Now that $100 was a cash price for an employee of a company that gave him good business so, expect at least the same for your car's much more minor injury.

Hmm, I don't know about the exact material. My repair knowledge was of a Honda Oddessy rear bumper, which may or may not be of a similar material.

Noo, noo... we're talking about different things here.

I'm not talking about a body shop. That is the big difference. I'm talking about a guy, who's a Self Employed, independant contracter, with a cargo van, that drives dealership to dealership to fix bumpers. They're everywhere. BUmpers are not the same thing as metal body panels. Metal body panels go to body shops, bumpers go to these guys at a fraction of the price.
Here's how it works. Call the salesperson you bought your car from. Ask him if their dealership has a guy like this. They will. Ask what day they come in, becuase your bumper needs a facial. Come in that day, he will introduce you and you can pay the guy directly, cash. The salesperson won't make a dime no matter what, so his only thought, is that if he hooks you up, maybe you will send freinds, or come back next time, or to buy your wife or kid a car.
