Ideas needed for mods
I dont have a big budget to do the perfmance mods I'd like to do.
So I want to do some simpler/cosmetic mods with resources I have available. I enjoy making mods more than buying them btw.
I do 3D modeling for work. I have access to 3D digitizers/scanners.
I also have access to a few rapid prototyping machines SLA, resin and wax. I have a small (3x6x2 work area) 3 axis desktop mill. It isnt rated for metal but cuts plastic, wax and wood very good.
Here is what Ive thought about so far. I want anything I do to look like a factory option. I dont like mods that look like mods. Basically anything made of pastic or resin is easy for me to get made at work.
I am going to make custom badges for my 8, using my own logo. I could even design and make some custom RX-8 club badges if enough people are interested.
I could scan the dash then model and output a custom integrated iPod holder (I like playing with dynolicious on iPod touch, silly and not too accurate but fun to have G meter)
I dont like the oem side vents behind front wheels so was thining of making something more pleasing.
Integrating computer monitor wouldnt be too hard (but $$ spent on comp hardware I'd rather spend on perf parts).

make a keyhole cover.
a scammer came on here offering them for $10 painted if he could get at least 3 people wanting the same color. he had 40 people agreeing within 3 days. you can buy the paint (i.e. in velocity red) in aerosol cans on the net. if you get a few people of the same color, you could run it in batches.
and honestly, you could make some money. personally, i'd still buy it if it was $20. but if you can do it for $10, you'll definitely sell a lot more.
the last time i used the keyhole was to check if it actually worked when i bought the car. that is coming up on 2 years ago.

Heres one of my many projects https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ighlight=Rotr8
Im also wanted to do a fender vent but since there are some really nice ones out there(autobahn, chargespeed, etc, etc) I'm deciding to take it one step further and do a whole fender, I just acquired a spare set recently and am starting in the next month...
What exactly are you thinking, your request is pretty generic?
Ha Im working on this too but the extent of the modifications really wouldnt bbe a price people would be willing to pay for... Well at least the part Im making. I could make a more simplified version though...

cheaper lip kits! man you know what just make all black emblems, most people spray paint them then they gotta stick them back on then later the paint fades and they need to paint them again. at least i do.

I currently work at Gentle Giant Studios. I do mostly VFX work but some product development stuff too. Coolest military thing I have done is scanned the joint task force F-35 flight stick (not sure if right word... control handle etc). I also worked on a modification for LA SWAT on thier sniper rifle bolt.
Small world we have a Minolta Vivid 9i. I see you use Geomagic. I have tried it but prefer Polyworks for scanning. We also use Rapidform and GSI. For our high accuracy scanning we use our ATOS scanner.
I also use Solidworks a lot.
