Inserting Fasteners

this is a real noob question but i just finished installing my RB screens and a while back i had done my clear corners and am completely inept. how do you reinstall the fasteners that are in the wheel well without breaking off the little pieces? i've already gone through 4 and need to go buy some more to replace. again, no need to remind me that i have no mechanical skills whatsoever - i already know.

Insert the fastener, push the threaded part in and turn to the right. Those things are uber cheap. I can remember breaking a couple just putting on my clears.

they are two piece twist fasteners when you take them out. just put them in and push.

if it's any easier, take them apart and then put in the outer piece in first. then just put the 2nd piece in and push.

Oh yeah, you gotta hold the base while turning to tighten, otherwise the whole fastener will turn in the hole. That's the tricky part.

oh btw I really don't know what I'm talking about...take NGO's advice.

i figured it should just be as easy as pushing in and turning since that's how they came out but each time i heard "crack, crack, $hit!!!.....crack, crack, $**** not again!" i'll try taking them apart and see if that's any easier once i buy some more. thanks for the help.

make sure the outer piece is in properly. what can happen is it may not be in all the way and may crack when you push the 2nd piece in.

Oh btw, if you need to replace them, I found two local Mazda dealerships had these in stock. If not they can order them. I don't remember how much they were but not too expensive. Check with your local dealer. Might be worth getting some extras just in case.

yah, they're cheap. i bought some extras. new ones are easier to snap in and take off than ones that have been on the car for a long time. most dealers should stock them considering there are so many required for each car.

i went to the dealership to get them last time but have had a bit of a falling out with them so do you know if you can get them at home cheapo? i remember them being only a few bucks each but i've got to believe that a home depot or lowes carries them as well.

i was at lowes today and found some fasteners that work. they're a bit small and just barely cover the hole but seem to hold okay. it's not ideal but i believe they were just over a dollar for two so it was worth it to try so i got a pack. like i said, they barely cover the hole but i tried tugging on them and they didn't seem to be giving way so i'll probably just get them there from now on.
