Installed LED parking light bulb disabled day-time running light?
Anyone know if installing LED parking light bulb causes running light to be disabled? I just installed these bulbs and now the regular running light is disabled and my high beam is becoming the running light. When I install the LED, I didn't disconnect the battery, will that affect the result?

It shouldn't, unless possibly you were sloppy and shorted something. but fuse shoul've blown.
One quick way to tell........switch them back and see if all returns to normal.
What LED's did you use?

If it's a blown fuse, shouldn't there be no running light at all? Here is what I have observed:
ignition off - ebrake on - 1st stage light & headlight light on then parking light and side-marker on
ignition off - ebrake off - 1st stage light & headlight light on then parking light and side-marker on
ignition on - ebrake off - 1st stage light & headlight light off then high beam as running light
ignition on - ebrake on - 1st stage light & headlight light on then parking light and side-marker on
ignition on - ebrake off - 1st stage light on then high beam, parking light & side-marker on
ignition on - ebrake off - 1st stage light & headlight light on then headlight, parking light & side-marker on
ignition off - ebrake on - 1st stage light & headlight light on then parking light and side-marker on

Yeah.......I thought about backwards too, but didn't make sense to what you wrote.
Think you still need to go back to stock and start over........one side at a time.

Interestingly, I changed both parking bulbs back to stock and still the same issue, high beam as running light. FYI, I also changed my high beam bulb to Heon bulb prior to the LED change for parking light. I don't think that would be an issue. I have also checked the DRL fuse, it's good.

rapidfire:
this is definitely a strange one. Where are you located? We don't have running lights in the US so maybe the wiring is a little different on your car?
Either way, switching out bulbs should NOT have caused this problem(assuming it was done properly and the right wattage bulbs were used)

I'm located in Canada, my car came manufactured from Japan, unless the high beam has always been the running light which I doubt it. I'm not sure what's the wattage of vleds that I have but I'm pretty sure it's lower than the stock bulbs

Alucard, do you have daytime running light in your car? The problem that I'm having is the daytime running light. I have checked a 2004 rx8, the high beam is the running light. Now I wonder if that's the way it is.

Normally it would, but when I look at mine and another rx8, it looks like the ECU reduce the wattage to the bulb when it is in running light mode, it's alot dimmer than regular high beam. I'll try to find other same year same trim to compare.

I think the problem with this thread is that no one from Canada (where the OP is from) has taken the time to answer his questions. So I will try:
In Canada we have daytime running lights (DRLs). In every single car that is brought to the Canadian market, the DRLs are just the highbeam bulbs with reduced voltage running to them. This is accomplished by what is called a DRL module.
So, in other words, rapidfire, you're car is normal. There is NOTHING WRONG with it. DRLs are always just the Highbeams dimmed using the DRL module. Let me know if there are any further problems.

Yes, I think AmKorp is right - I didn't chime in because I couldn't understand what the problem was - it all sounded like stock.
The DRL puts the two highbeam bulbs in SERIES, so they each see 6 volts, not 12. A crappy system, but it works, kinda.

Thx Amkorp and StealthTL for the clarification and everyone else who had chime in and tried to help out, I seldom drive my car during the day so I didn't notice the high beam is the daytime running light, I should have known my car better so that I won't make a fool out of myself like this . At first, it didn't click that US model doesn't have daytime running light which I have read somewhere in the forum. Next time I'll remember to post in the Canada section first. Thanks alot guys.
