Ken's right though... the first time we mount the JDM Burnout pieces we hung them a little too high. The truth is, it looks like they can be mounted either way, higher or lower, or somewhere in between. I think it fits best low.

Addition: Low meaning approximately a "pinky's width" below the crease on the side of the rear bumper. This works out to about 1/2", due to my pinky size. Yes, I also suggest placing the side skirts at about the same "drop" below the body crease on the panels before and aft of the doors. This has, overall, the best alignment with the curvature of the underlying panels and the position of the front lip.

BTW-this kit is now SUPER easy to mount to your car! I WAS thinking of painting my entire kit in rubberized black bumper coating, but am having my bodyshop shoot it in satin black right now. The graphics will either be satin silver, or high-gloss black, on the satin black panels only. Yes, my car is sponsored by some big-name Mfgs. No, you may not marry me or have my children. I am partial to bribes though! :D

One other quick question, Ken, will you be sanding down that rear part for me like Eric suggested in a previous post? If so, I'd appreciate it.

Yep. All the rears that we have have been sanded down properly. Once the mold is adjusted, not much sanding will be needed if any.

sponsored for racing? if so, what kind of racing do you do?

I didn't say "sponsored for racing", although the goal is to build a lightweight, fun-to-drive, RWD machine which can be used for track days, Auto-X (I don't care if I run dead last in a class as long as I'm having fun), and drifting too.

Ultimately, I hope to produce a "magazine-worthy" RX-8 without resorting to the tack-on carbon fiber interior pieces and "Combat" body kits.

I photograph and write for car magazines here in the US. Freelance from home, find my own stories, hustle the editors, and basically provide the complete package for the magazine whenever I can. I've been averaging 4 or 5 magazine covers per year, which I'm told is "very respectable" by other photographers. It's just a slightly bigger check for me, that's all.

My car is built to be a baseline, no-BS benchmark to better evaluate other "enthusiast-built" cars. Also, since I'll be attending JDM shows in SoCal this year to look for more cars to shoot for magazines, I'll be entering it in shows (and probably getting my butt handed to me by purpose-built "trailer queens").

Wet-sanding last night and will do some later today. I must first ship a box, hit the post office, and take my whining child to the park! I spoke the to company which does my graphics yesterday afternoon and should have my graphics on the way soon too! I think the body shop can shoot my kit as soon as I drop it off later today. They didn't have the time to do the wet-sanding so I took that portion of the job on myself.

i just looked again at the side shot of your car during test fitment and want to confirm, the side skirts come down a little bit lower than the front lip? by about how much?

The graphics will be only applied to the kit panels... No 2Fast,2Fugly for me! It'll be so tasteful it'll make you say "Daaaaammmmmmmnnnnnn!"

Aw heck, I don't know. We just hung everything in place with clear packaging tape! Hardly what I would call a precise fit. I think perhaps 1/2" lower on the side skirts, but some of that can be adjusted during the fit of the kit. I like the nose piece to hang level when viewed from the side, and not pulled down at the wheel arches. We hung the side skirts about 1/4" down from the fold on the body, but that might be a little too far. Perhaps it should be up as high as 1/8th more. We're talking about very small amounts here!

Just wait for the photos. I'm going to try to have the kit installed by this weekend... Primer goes on tomorrow, and I'll be stopping by either late Wednesday or early Thursday to pick them up for some serious wet sanding and smooting... not that the pieces really need them, but just because I'm an **** perfectionist and that's how I do things!

My painting is supposed to be done sometime on Saturday. If it's early enough in the afternoon, I'll have it mounted up in time for sunset photos! If it's later, then I'll have to do it on Sunday. There's only one GOOD bodyshop in town, so my work comes behind all of their paying customers. It's worth it though... I hate waiting!
