JDM Acrylic Visor anyone?

Hi there. Does anyone have one of these? Has anyone even seen one installed?

I'm kind of on the fence as to whether to spend my hard-earned bucks as the guinea-pig for this.

Thoughts?

It's popular in European and South American cars. I was told that it serves two functions: 1.) Shield from the sun a bit better and 2.) Drive in light rain with window partially open.

Sound silly? Look silly?

Maybe it's ok in Singapore, but here in the US, we don't use the term "Jap" to describe the Japanese. That's a rather derogatory word used back in WWII, so at the least, try not to use it again for the very same people that made the RX-8.

relax guys, i'm sure he doesn't mean anything by it... i took more notice of him claiming smoking good for health (as a joke, i think)

anyways, mom has those on her Matrix, and they're handy for getting fresh air during the rain (which IMO is the best smell in the world).

Maybe he doesn't mean anything, and I also acknowledged that maybe it's acceptable in Singapore to say "Jap"... but I think as a respect to everyone else on the board, I don't think he should start saying that. Otherwise you'll see people using the N word or calling asians "*****" "gook" or calling white people "honky" "whitey" etc... all of which is taken negatively.

Jap is short for Japanese. I heard it all the time when I was growing up and it was never used in a derogatory fashion.

It was only when I got older that somehow some people thought it was a dirty word. I think at some point "Jap" got confused with "nip". Nip is always meant to be insulting.

If someone uses the term Jap in a fashion that is clearly meant to be short for Japenese it is legitimate.

So it's ok for the people that grew up in the Civil War South to still use the N word? You do know that people down in the south still use that term... you think that's appropriate? Like I said, "Jap" was used during WWII era, and I'm afraid maybe you're older than most of us and lived during that time, but modern day we do not use offensive terms lightly just for the sake of making a joke without having some sort of negative reaction.

BTW, I've known quite a few Japanese friends, been to Japan often for buisness trips, if I ever used the term "Jap", trust me, it would look bad for me.

I would like you to call the Mazda office in Irvine and ask them..."Hey I would like to buy one of your Jap cars." and tell me what sort of response you get.

I don't think it was being used in any kind of derogatory manner, but since it has offended someone, it's best just to not use the word anymore.

You clearly missed my point. I am talking about the transformation of the word and any double meanings it might have. I know no double-meaning for the n-word so I consider that a bad analogy.

Yes, in this hyper-sensitive PC world we live in I certainly wouldn't put Jap in a company newsletter, but you might find me asking my local mechanic: "Do you know where I can get a good deal on Jap' parts?"

It is the codemnation of those who don't follow the social norm when it is obvious they are not trying to be offensive that bothers me.

Some people might mind all the four letter words on this forum. Do you go around reminding vulgar posters that they might be offending others?

I can't possibly read every post and see which ones offend whom, but this one in particular caught my eye because I was showing my friend who is Japanese the Visors ... and when he read the part of the "Jap" as you lightly expressed, he was offended, as he should be.
