Lambo Doors :: The Decision

Its been months since we've spoken about this topic, however recently dad pasted a shop on his way to work that had a supra with lambo doors.

He stopped to inquire:

It will cost 2,500 for kit/install however they basically said don't do it.

They said unless its going to be a show car its not worth it because "of a small space to manuever"

They didn't recommend it and stated that you may have to open the suicide door to just get in your car!

What kind of BULL$#%# is that? Why would the door not be able to open up enough?

He said the kit was from ground effects, however i want a motorized one from autoloc, whom seem to be damn good for what they do.

Is what these people say true? Will i actually have to open to suicide to get in? Or is it becuase they can't install it properly?

Please advice.

I would think they mean the door opening would be narrowed by the door when it's swung up, blocking the upper windshield-side corner. Opening the suicide doors wouldn't help then unless you have you seat so far back that the suicide door is beside you when you sit in the car.

Still, I agree that this mod is best suited to show cars. I'd save the money and spend it on FI when it comes out, if I were you.

the FI..i have no freakin clue what that is ... but im guessin its the version where everything is definite and 100% garunteed trusworthy. i think our super moderator omicron is correct. don't risk so much money unless yu know for sure that everything is smooth, no problems.

im gonna get lambo doors too but wen there's a model where everything is perfected.

ROFL = "Roll On Floor Laughing" It's chat shorthand.
ROFLMAO = "Roll On Floor Laughing My *** Off"
LOL = "Laugh Out Loud"
TTYL = "Talk To You Later"
IMO = "In My Opinion"
FWIW = "For What It's Worth"
WTF = "What the F*%k!?"
STFU = "Shut The F*%k Up!"

Just a few acronyms and their translation for ya.

Save your money on something else. Whoever thought they could adapt scissor doors on to Civics, Accords, etc. needs to be kicked in the throat.

That would be because you are putting them on a car that they DON'T BELONG ON! You want the doors buy a lamborghini..if you don't have that kind of money admire them for what they are...a car you'll never afford that has cool doors...i do...

Even if it looked good (which it doesn't) with all the other reasons not to do this to a car, I'm sure it would be even worse with the freestyle doors on the 8.

Okay maybe a kick in the throat is too harsh. A swift kick to the ********* will do.

Would it honestly be that hard? I mean what the hell why would it be so hard? It goes up, you step out.

I can understand if you had to watch your head, but thats about it..

You should have a good enough amnt of room to get in and out right?

If you are interested in it, here is a good example of an RX-8 with scissor doors. It belongs to Veilside and it was debuted at the 2004 TAS.

its just not functional! i mean having only 2 feet of space just to get into your car just so you can look cool?!?! why????? don't do this to yourself or your car! You will regret it! Listen to the shop..they know what they're talking about...

A lot of "lambo" style doors not only open up, but out as well, giving you much more room.

Hi Monte! I've heard that a 'L' and 'inverted-L' hinge are in the works. This will allow the door to be opened normally in addition to scissors-style. Can't seem to find one for RX8 - although it has been done on the RX-7.

Has anyone seen such a hinge? Cheers all!

isnt there another thread for this? eh... anyways erf the veilside looks pretty tyte to get in.

i dont understand how the hinge can't go up anymore. it'll be great if the door can be completely "VERTICAL" since its pretty much called "vertical doors" at DECAH. yeah i only trust DECAH for vertical doors
