LED Taillights

Everyone must have seen pics of the facelifted RX-8 by now. If you've seen the LED taillights, I'm sure some of you must have thought of swapping out your current taillights with the new LED ones in the near future.

I've always wanted LED taillights for my car as I'm sure it'll look 10X better than it is with the regular taillights . The new 350Z has them. The G35/G37 coupe have had them. It's about the RX-8 had them, too. Heck, even the Mazda3 got 'em first.

Question is, would the new LED taillights be a direct swap with the existing ones? I've looked at pictures and compared the shape of both taillights (LED vs. regular) and I didn't see any difference. Any ideas how much those LED taillights are gonna cost? $1K for both?

Now...who's gonna be the first person with those LED taillights on his car here?

That's a DIY.

I'm talking about a direct swap. I don't want to monkey--heck, I don't even have the skills to monkey--with the LEDs and wires, etc.

by the look of it it wont directly fit. maybe some modification to the rear bumper needed as it is slightly taller than our tail lights (i know on here someone posted a pic of it)

Might not be exactly what you want, but check this post and it will lead you to what I am using back there. They are just LED's that go right into existing sockets so it may not be what you are talking about.

Towards the bottom of the post, it will have brake lights(LED's) and backup lights(LED's)
If it does interest you, I can get some pics and post them. I have them somewhere.

In the actual face lift thread someone was talking about this but realized that the new light units are slightly larger then the stock ones and the new bumper has small divits in it to allow the lights to be bigger. So no it would not be a direct swap unless you do some body work on your rear bumper or get the new one.
