License plate: rx-8 moving from AZ to IL

First off, I am not an RX-8 owner, and never will be, not my kind of car. But I do think it is one of the best sports cars on the market. Actually it is one of the few true sports cars on the market and it is a blast to drive. I am more a fan of low-end torque (I drive a CTS-V). But as long as you keep the revs up, the 8 has never had me wanting. And I even defended the 8 recently over on another forum I frequent.

Anyway, my point; my sister has an RX-8 and she just moved back to Chicago from Phoenix. Which is great because I will get to drive it more But... she needs a front license plate mount. I searched here and found several informative threads. The one I like the most is Gamera's where he used an EVO side mount.

My other option, since I run a metal shop is to just make one for her. But I was wondering if any of you had any other inventive ideas, or pictures even.
My first post. Thanks!

Just post in the Buy and Sell section. I am sure there are plenty of folks that will be happy to sell a bracket to you just to get it out of their garage. Someone might even send you one for the shipping costs.

Oh, by the way, I always hated the license plates mounted off to one side, but that's just me.

I might try that, thanks.

It is up to my sister whether she wants it on the side or in the middle (what you guys call Bugs Bunny apparently?)

If that doesn't work, ask a dealer if they have any in back, you might get that for free too. The same thing happened to me when the law in Massachusetts changed and I need a bracket for an Eclipse. I went to a dealer and asked them about it and he just handed me one for free. You never know.

I've been looking to do the side mount thing as well in my car (live in NY) but around here, it seems like 90% of new Corvettes go without a front plate, at least half of the Jaguar XK's and plenty of other cars. The "Vette has to be the most ticketed car on the planet, so I'm tempted to remove the sucker altogether. Only problem would be street parking in NY City proper- too many eyes.

If it were me, I would try without. I know alot of people who have gone without front plates for years and never been pulled over for it here in Chicago. Even if you get pulled over, most cops never walk to the front of the car so probably wouldnt notice. But she wants it. I will tell her to try the dealer and see if they will comp it.

What town are you in? (if you want to take it to pm's we can.) I removed my front plate a couple months ago and have the bracket.

Let me know if you are interested.

Thats a hell of a drive. I ran w/o a front licence plate for about 1 1/2 yrs. During that time I was questioned and the final straw was getting a warning ticket for not having it.
What ever you two decide, good luck.

If it were me, most of my drive is the boonies, and then I94. So I never even see any cops. I went without a front plate for about a year on one of my cars years ago and never got caught for it.

Since I started this thread, I have noticed quite a few Rx-8s out there. Almost all of them were without a front plate. I find that interesting.

I like your avatar by the way. Very clever.

I would definitely get one, because I actually got pulled over in the fall because I didn't have one on my old car. I couldn't mount it, and I still got a $30 ticket.

All depends on the cop. I been pulled over many times, and I dont ever remember them ever walking to the front of the car.
