Matte carbon Seibon hoods?

Saw this on eBay. Are they just wet sanding good hoods? No mention of this on Seibon's site.

Got to be. The gloss in a carbon hood is all in the polish of the resin.

You realize that is something different right, Rotr8? Those are dry carbon, ie $$$$, whereas the ebay link is $680 like normal wet carbon. The "model number" is also different.

Siebon says Dry carbon but thats thier market scheme, if they were true prepreg dry carbon they would be 3 times that expensive,, and yeah Ebay is always a truthful source... Its the same thing,,, Seibon would go out of business if they were in the prepreg business, the Seibon(on site) is a matte wet carbon material...

I'm pretty sure I saw something of theirs that was "dry carbon" and it was more to the tune of $2k. I could be wrong though.

The seller makes it clear they aren't the dry carbon. There are other sellers of those at $1800ish. I was just curious if this was a new finish or a little wet sand job.

**** that looks nice. seibon says it weighs 5.8kg, thats 12 something pounds. not a huge change from our 16lb hood. especially not for $2400. i'll take the refinished "wet carbon." lol.

TopGear8 has the dry carbon Seibon hood. its the same just not glossy like the wet carbon.

i think they are calling them dry carbon when the fact is they are not actually. just a matte finish.

TopGear8 has a normal hood: https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...6&postcount=54

If you read the thread or the auction you'd see the seller is VERY explicit that this is NOT dry carbon.

why pre-preg parts are often DULL-LOOKING, hence the marketing term........"DRY CARBON."
Thats because the person making parts has a poor mold surface.

It might be a "normal" hood, but it does have the matte finish unlike EVERY other Seibon TS style hood I've seen on these forums. Nuke has the same hood and his looks completely different than mine...

TopGear - where did you get it? Odd that your sig pic looks like the gloss version.

Here was the sellers response:

"these were a bit of a experimental for seibon to test the waters on the market. they only made a few to see if there was a demand for them. the product is entirely done by seibon all the way to the packaging. the UV protection coat is still there and carries the warranty. the weight is the same as the gloss finish hoods they make also. it's a cheaper alternative to the real dry carbon that seibon makes"

I got it from Lazi(Driveline Performance) used to be a vender on this site, but Lazi was let go, so they no longer are. Also, it took them 6 months to get me the hood, communication was terrible, and they lied to me. So I would not recommend buying from them.
