Mazda Paint

I just finished talking to my body guy, he says you can't mix Velocity Red because there is different metallic and perals in it and the only way to get the paint to match perfectly is order it through mazda themselves, in which they even give you a pressure to spray it at. Is this true? anyone who has had a VR bumper painted, what color primer did they use, a light color primer/dark color? Is ordering the paint directly through mazda anymore expensive?

BS.
With the correct color code 27A for Velocity Red Mica Tricoat you get the exact paint mixed.
I used a PPG paint mixed by http://www.paintscratch.com. They have a good tips for spraying a tricoat paint. The primer color doesn't matter. All that matters is how you spray the midcoat with the flakes in it. Off course you need an even base coat sprayed first. I have painted my body kit 2 times. The first time I did 3 light midcoats and it came out a little darker. The second time I did 2 midcoats and its perfect match. And I'm not even a professional painter. You really have to experiment with the midcoat to get a good match. Its not that hard at all.

velocity red is the most expensive color but you dont have to use mazdas color.....there is a catalyst that is supposed to be special in the recipe to make it a true perfect but that is just what makes it a bit more....sc-ed is pretty much on the money...but i wouldnt be brave enough to paint it myself

Last year a local shop wanted $700 for painting only my Vailside v1 kit and they couldn't guarantee color match. And that was a shop doing insurance work for high class cars only. Maaco wanted $350 but I don't trust them.
Thats why I did it myself. It wasn't all about money.
BTW I got a pint of PPG VR paint yesterday from a local paint supplier and it cost me $140. It is expensive.

Forgot to mention another ridiculous quote I had last year from a performance shop. They quoted me $3000 for installation of the front and rear lips and for molding the side skirts, and painting all.
The kit price was about $700 delivered.
WTF.

Removing the oragne peel is a bad idea. The paint is thin enough as it is.
