moisture in fog lights??

Well, I recently bought some new oem foglights online and had the dealer install them when they installed my aero kit. A couple days later I noticed moisture in the driver side fog. And then just the other day noticed that there was actually water standing in it. I really doubt the dealer will help since I got them online.
I needed to install my oil cooler and radiator grill anyway so yesterday I took the bumper off. Right away, I noticed that the fog vent on the back of it was pointed up and the one that didn't have moisture was pointed down. I pointed it down, checked the o ring on the bulb, dried it out, installed my grills, and reinstalled. Today, guess what- moisture in it again!
I hate the thought of taking the bumper off again, so if anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears.

I guess if I have to take it out again, I will put a little silicone on it before I put it back in.

Yes, do this. Where online did you buy the fog lights? If they are truly OEM, then I would assume that silicone wouldn't be needed. If there are "OEM style", then I can see why additional sealant is needed.

Regardless, when you take them out again, make sure all the moisture is gone and add silicone along where the lens meets the housing.

Well, it's alot less moisture than it was before I turned the vent down (there was actually water sitting in it). Maybe I just didn't get it completely dry before I put it back in. I bought them from AZpartsexpress. They were brand new, came with oem papers, foglight switch, and all.

Never heard of OEM housings getting water all in them like that before. Maybe a design flaw

mine had water in them after an HID swap because I got lazy and did the swap at like 12 midnight lol and it was cold outside lol and so when i put the fogs back in some condensation would always pop up on the fog lights but on a recent bulb swap i let the fog lights dry out real good and hair dryer to get out all the little droplets and no recurrence yet of the moisture droplets gluck bro

i had water in mine after i put my HIDs in them just finally got a new set thanks to one of the members and what i did so i wouldnt get water since they were perfect was i made sure the seal was right on the bulb then i pushed down the three tabs that the bulb has just a smidge with some pliers so when i put the bulb back in the fog it would squeeze the seal more and be tighter and prevent moisture from coming in and it has worked fine so far

FL The Solution

Before I changed my fog lights to HID, they never had moisture. Now they do and it builds up to a fish tank. I removed the HID's and bought 100w (not stock 55w) normal halogen bulbs. Now the one side has hid with moisture and the other side has no moisture. I am assuming..... That the 100w halogens get so damn hot, it literally boils the water til it dries out, HID's dont produce barely any heat, and the 55w halogen bulbs are just not bright or hot enough. Try putting 100w halogens in your fog lights and see if it goes away, make sure your fog lights are always on with your headlights. Also, those vents are very important for the fig lights to work properly and vent heat, if they are sealed with silicone or sealed at all, the lights will eventually burn out.

I never had moisture problems with the fog lights. I had moisture problems with the tail lights, but it's okay now. I think there are more issues with the tail lights rather than the fog lights about the moisture.

I just bought some OEM 100w fog lights also, and they started gaining moisture, so I went and got some 55w bulbs and put them in, no moisture, im thinking since the 100w get so hot, with a humid climate, its causing moisture build up inside the fog light assembly, I guess theres a reason why the Rx8s come with 55w bulbs, Id stick with those or HIDs

I had the same issue when I switched over to HID's, turns out there is a rim that the rubber gasket/o ring goes on. Mine came undone so all i had to do was re-seat the gasket and presto all was good.
