My new rear rotary lamp

I always liked how the RX-8 has a rotary-shaped fog light in other countries outside the USA - but like quite a few other options, this is something that's not available here as an OEM item. But it can be had... except that this one is not hooked up as a rear fog light, rather than an additional light that is on whenever the taillights are illuminated. It is hooked up to the license plate light.
I'm sure some adventurous types could wire it to the fog light switch and use a brighter bulb - but as an ornament, this works quite well and it looks great. I love it!
One additional advantage compared to the OEM rotary lamp is that this can be used together with the rotary accent (or without, if desired).

Now for the pics... the first few show the light assembly and the parts that come with the kit (minus some wire taps). It is a totally professional fabrication - look at how the lamp appears as an OEM item.

Very nice. Are these from derwankel from the "other side"?

Make sure you have some installed pics.

A hole must be cut into the rotor-shaped recess - I used a hole saw. The end result non-illuminated and with the lights on...

Nice. I panicked when I saw the cut hole in the rear rotary crest, but it looks sweet in the end.

That's correct - the lens can be clear instead of red upon request.

From what I can remember, I've never seen one with the rear rotary accent still in tact. All the rear lamps I have seen have always had to cut out that entire area.

Great job

Oh and Tamas....

The accent goes on after the lamp is installed. You scared me for a sec, I had to dig up the instructions to be sure.

That's the case with the OEM fog light - but to my understanding, this one is manufactured to either fit together with the rotary accent or without. It's made according to your request.

Oh and Tamas....
Geez... you're starting to scare me
Good thing you live so far away

The lamp sits inside the accent, there's no overlapping. You have to install the light first and then the accent. If you already have the accent on, you must pull it off and then reinstall.

OK ... this just looks SICK! ... Gotta get me one of these. Love the look with the accent ... looks like it should have come this way from the factory.

Not exactly - those don't fit the rear accent and this one does
Oh, and those are also real fog lights, while this one is usually just an extra taillight.
A rear fog light is a requirement in many European countries if I'm not mistaken.
