NEW BODYKIT! well.. potentially

so if most of you dont know, i am a graphic artist that work in the film industry, doing mostly trailers and tv commercials, i deal with mostly the 3d aspect of things. I've also briefly studied automotive design. My latest credentials include the title animations for the trailers of Transformers the movie and art directing the ps3 game fl0w.

So im trying to gauge interest in developing a new bodykit, i've already built the 3d model for it, but to put it into production is another phase. I am also looking into approaching some vendors and manufacturers and having them produce it. Business aside, i would like to see some original kits on the market US-side, not modifications of existing kits, but actual ground up designs made to flow with the 8's unique curves. I think this would be welcomed by forums members also since there will be more choices.

Anyways here is some pictures of my kit design in 3D, please ignore rendering glitches and the super simple geometry of the base rx8 model, constructive criticism is welcome, also please tell me if you would be interested in something like this.

Thanks

Hao

sounds like a great idea and a great start. as is, im not a fan of the kit so far though. something about the center airdam of the front just flow to me. the rear also bugs me. that hole in the middle...where would it go to? besides that i just dont like the look of it. not sure how id change it though. good luck with this, again i think its a cool idea

i really like the idea of getting a new design out there. i also think your lines are very clean. the part that i don't really care for which is completely a personal preference is that it has taken the aspect of the front bumper that i don't care for and emphasized it. i don't care for the front of the stock because it looks like a cheesy grin. this one seems to really dramatize that and almost add that to the back.

if you lost some of the upward flare in the front and back i think it's something i would definitely be interested in. i have been going back and forth with which kit and i am at a standstill. i like the MS kit but it's been done to death. i also kind of like the FEED kit but don't like the protrusion at the bottom. yours seems to do a great job getting it just about right. of course, just about right is a matter of personal choice.

i like it, bud id prefer that the side skirts go ina more original direction. right now they look similar to all the other ones, which all look cheezy

Good job. Yeah, I see a little Knight Sport in the front bumper. I'm really digging the diffuser look of the rear, maybe just square it off more on the corners that goes along the wheel well.

I saw a little Vertex Lang in the front. It looks ok, and deff better than anything I could render!

But I have to saw I really do like the rear bumper. It looks like a cross between the Kenstyle rear (which I love) and a diffuser, really slick. I am a big fan on it.

i've been lookin' for a new look for mine. i like the start that you have. I agree with the above about the grin look. I do like the little flare on the bottom corners of the front. looks like some built-in canards. the side skirts are more original than i've seen... but still not different enough. I love the rear end, my only question is, what would go or show in the big open space? other than that, where do i sign up to take lessons on designing? it looks real sharp!

I don't know what everyone else is saying but those sideskirts are the sickest ones I have seen for the 8 ((only one I currently like in production is MS))...... front looks vertex "langey" ....and the rear needs to be adjusted a little......other than that its hot...

oh ya Missyk...marry me

thanks for the input guys, i am currently working on some other ideas i have in my head and will post them up here when done so you guys can check it out.

Personally my favorite is the side skirts and to be honest i bit them off the sides of the porsche sport package, but i feel at the right angle they accentuate the line created by the curved back edge of the side windows.

The front i tried to extend the lines of the fender flare and also the sides of the head lights, thats why it has that so called grin look. I wouldnt call it cheesy, its more like a evil grin to me. The stock rx8 front looks a little too happy for my tastes also.

As for the rear i am not satisfied with my current design, it does kind of look like a smiling fat asian kid, but i am a fan of the exotic car diffuser look, so expect to see something in that direction. I was also thinking of building a dual center exhaust, and making a rear that could potentially house that. Look at the rear of a lambourghini murcielago for reference.

So far i dont have any manufacturers that will forsure make this kit, but with enough support from you guys im sure anything can happen. If there is demand, there will be a product. On a side note, i am not very well connected in the automotive industry, so if anyone knows someone that could arrange for potential production, i'd really appreciate a PM so i can send off my designs to be reviewed.

Thanks

Hao

have you tried contacting the vendor on here, shine auto? i like their work and although i've only seen the replica i wonder if they would do something like this. they seem to take great pride in their work and have a good reputation from everyone who has experience with them.

if you do go with a dual center exhaust just keep in mind that you will be limiting your customer base. i would be interested in a rear bumper if it were similar to what you have and certainly in those awesome skirts. but if you went to a rear that required extra work to modify the exhaust i would have to pass. since i'm not exactly joe handy it would mean i would have to pay someone to do that and i'm sure it wouldn't be that cheap. having a shop paint and install a rear bumper that fits over the current exhaust would expand the number of people willing to buy IMHO.
