Lookey here:
http://cftype.com/carbon_fiber/?nav=...product_id=314

This is the first I've seen these, and I really like them, now, which gauges (oil pressure/water temp).....will light red to match the OEM lighting and won't cost a fortune is the big question.

I like it, but just the idea that an aluminum gage might be hurled at my face at 200 mph in the event of a crash kinda freaks me out.

My buddy still installed his in his Jetta.

You would have to disconnect the airbags, as it would probably kill you...

Drivers side A-pillar. Where one of the air bags is suppose to be. Whoever designed the peice obviously gave very little thought. And if he/she did..........scary!

This is the problem with many of the parts out there being designed without any consideration to safety or sound engineering principles... Another thing to remember is many of these are for racing/off-road use only...

i don't think that the japanese version of the 8 has curtain airbags (at least not standard in all of their 8's).

anyone actualy look under their pillar? I had a squiz under mine and it looks like the air bag is in the roof.
it sort of makes sence since the curtain covers front and back windows.
this leaves the ? where do the current covers go when the bag gos off? in your face? I'd bet if these CF ones use stock mounts they will function just as stock. BTW I'm guessing the STD ones stay attached to the base near the dash and come away at the top to allow the bag to deploy.

Those Defi are not actually a pod. He just mounted them with the stock black mount plates.

Also, if my RX-8 got wrecked I might as well die anyway....J/K

I wish i knew how the curtain airbags deployed. If it did it in such a way that the a-pillar didn't fly out that would be great. I wouldn't think it would...b/c if it did that would defeat the purpose of having an airbag there for safty. But i wonder how the weight of the guages would affect it.....hmmmmmm anyone have any thoughts on this? I would love to know if this is a fesable (<--spelling?) adn safe place to put the guages. I love the location...but so far i can't find out ,on here or by talking to my mazda delership, how the curtain airbag deploys. Oh well maybe it wasn't meant to be....haha although i hope it was.

wife/girlfriend: "how is he doc?"
doc: "well.. there's good news and bad news.. the good news is that the curtain airbags worked and deployed properly.. the bad news is that there's an a pillar gauge pod impaled into his head."

you might also want to take into consideration the wires that get hooked up to the guages and what happens to them and the guages they are attached to when the airbag goes off...
