New paint job, what you think?
Hey guys,
I am now considerin (wanna hold off on the body kit and midpipe) to get a paint job with that new stormy blue color. I love it, that is, if it is like the strato blue in Japan. I just couldn't hold off getting an 8 and had no idea that color would hit the states, so I got the next best thing, silver. But I love that blue and I am thinking about contacting the dealer on possibly getting a paint job then I'm gonna clear bra it. Do you guys think I should have the dealership do it or, have the dealership give the body shop the code for the paint and have them do it. They are a very reputable body shop but quite expensive. Expensive as in, a good 5 grand for a brand new paint job and dent fix on a 98 m3 roadster (size of a z3.) I have yet to see that stormy blue in color but if it is like the strato blue then I am gonna go for it.

Painting a car is not cheap, especially if you want to do it right. I work at a dealership with a paint & body shop, and trust me, they don't want to be bothered with that kind of work. They are mostly in it for insurance claims.
Best thing to do, if you definately want to get it painted, is to find a reputable shop. But remember, since you have a new car, you're gonna want to paint the door jams, trunk jams, under the hood, under the trunklid, and the engine bay (which requires pulling the motor out). And none of that will be cheap. No sense in having a fresh paint job, then opening the doors or trunk and seeing the original color.
Also, repainting a car substantialy lowers the value of it.

I agree with Ngo and Mysql101: no sense in wasting a perfectly good paint job.

Agree, keep the color you have—at least until you need body work/repainting. If you really feel strongly about the new color, consider selling your car and buying a new one before repainting the one you have. (What you lose in depreciation probably would be less than the cost of a first-class paint job—which won't be as good as the factory paint job, anyway.)

If you've already made up your mind about getting it re-sprayed, then I guess you should take it to a bodyshop to get it done as others have recommended.
As for respraying a perfectly good paintjob, its all a matter of personal taste. If thats what you want, and you're willing to pay, go for it mate.

move to Austin and get hit in traffic or wait for hail damage, than get it shot whatever color you want.
I'd stay way the hell away from any dealership bodyshop in a heartbeat, they don't give a ****, they just want it in and out and that insurance money (or your ahrd earned cash) in their pocket Hit up a couple of car shows in your area or cruise nights and find out where the real hookup is, and if you're really going to do it, don't cheese it, get the whole thing shot, not just the outside.
