New Seibon Stuff?

Add paint to that carbon fiber hood and it will weight another few pounds, not to mention all those vents look like ***. To me a carbon fiber hood on an 8 says rice. Personally I'd rather add parts that make the car better, not worse, but that's me.

umbra: you do know that heat is one of major issues with a rotary engine, right? A vented hood, might not be the ultimate solutoin, but it will help relieve that engine bay of some unnecessary heat.

Not liking the looks is one thing.. but the hood is functional... So for me... I like the look of Carbon Fiber hoods. and its funtionality of making the engine bay cooler for the sacrafice of a few pounds works for me.. If I wanted a painted hood I would have just purchased the fiberglass hood... Im not too sure how much more- if any, it would weigh than the oe. and CF one + the weight of the paint like you said. Thats why CF would be a better choice for me..

just gods way of washing the engine bay.. Rain or water has never been a problem. Well sometimes on my civic I had DOHC and water would get down into the spark plug holes and cause some problems.. But then I got better fitting plug wire boots and problem solved.. But for the 8 no issues at all.

Absolutely... I swapped hoods this weekend with a guy in LA (Seibon vented hood like pictured) and on the trip out accross the Arizona and California deserts, it had to be THE worst day of the year heat wise.... in some slow traffic out of Phoenix the ambient temp hit 117 (I took a camera phone pic), but even at 75-85 MPH I was registering 113 on average. I usually never use AC, but I had to on this trip...I heard rotary engine knock for the very first time on this trip, we're talking a hot MF'er. I had to baby the throttle until I burned off some 87 octane I was forced to top off with.
Anyways, I was also monitoring sCANalyzer coolant and intake temps all the way out and all the way back, and even though the return ambient temps averaged 'only' 107, my coolant temps vs. ambient were 3-5 deg. F cooler relatively speaking. I know that is far from scientific, but given some 'normal' outside air temps to work with (i.e. 75-85 deg.), I think you could drive much harder and still keep closer to your desired operating temp easier with the vented hood. Now, I have to decide if I want to punch out the holes on the mini vents closer to the corners before painting. Worth the trouble in this location? I know one of the other CF hood companies has these holes cutout on their version.
