Paint don't rust, do they?
The snow is clearing up here in Wisconsin, so I hosed down the car after work today and guess what I found....what looks to be tiny rust spots!! I can buff them off easy, but where the heck do they come from? Checked wife's car, nothing. Just me.
Funny thing is (if you can call this funny) that my last car had it too, and my wife's last car didn't. And it's alway on the rear bumper/trunk lid. On the old car, I could never get rid of them, they always come back. Hope I took it off for good on the 8. Any idea what they are? Unfortunately, I didn't take picture before I buff them off.
My office used to be close to a foundary, so that could be iron particle sticking to the paint and rust, as a bodyshop manager explained to me, but I'm no where near it now, it just doesn't make sense.

It's on top of the paint, I can stretch them off with my nail, or get them off with paint cleaner. Once removed, there's nothing. But on my old car, they always comes back. So there are probably still some contaiminates that don't simply wash away.
I've looked into it a little bit more, and seems like those may be rail dust and the best way to remove is to use clay bar. Didn't have it when I bought the car used, but I do drive by rail tracks a few time a day, and with standing water, it's probably not hard to get the rail dust transferred to the car. I'll try that and hope it removes everything. If they come back, hope they don't, I'll post pictures.
Just **** me off that when i thought I'm over this problem with a new car, I see them again. And nobody else I know have it.

Do you park in a parking garage or anything like that?
BTW, I get to drive my car today(hopefully) for the first day in 6 months. Enjoy today's weather, supose to get colder again tomarrow and maybe snow thur.
I love how we go from -15 to 60+ in the matter of 2 weeks.

not when I'm at work, but the car is alway in the garage at home. It is a daily driver though. So sun, rain, snow, salt...it sees everything.
Where are you locate Umbra? Sounds like you're somewhere in Wisconsin area too. The weather does suck, I was looking at my summer tire last weekend, very tempted. And then I saw the forecast.
