paint peeling on side aero flares

paint peeling on side aero flares
Has anyone else experienced any paint peeling off the front lip of the side aero flares? I just noticed this on one of my flares - you can see black showing where the sunlight silver has come off - my car is an 05, and I've been extra careful with washing it and not getting the high pressure spray too close - not sure how this happened...now I have to figure out how to remedy it - I've gone back and read all the touch-up paint posts, but this is a bit more than just a chip or scratch...any suggestions?

Hmmm, no suggestions for a fix, but I'm planning to take mine to the dealer for investigation as a warrenty fix. My winning blue side aero flares are showing some black pitting at the front point. Almost looks sand-blasted, but like you I've been careful. I've only had my car for 5 months so I'd expect the aero flares to last longer than that.

You mean side-strakes, right? Aero Flares are the pieces that are along the bottom side of the car. Like side-skirts.

Is there something in the warranty that says the appearance package isn't warrantied the same as the rest of the exterior?

That is a common occurance on the front edge of the side aero flares.
Also common for the ends of side skirts to have wear from road debris hitting it.
After you get them refinished (smoothed on the front edge and repainted), apply some clear vinyl to the front edge and underside to protect it. 3M clear vinyl can be purchased for custom jobs like this.
Another thing that helps are the front mud flaps (they don't prevent it entirely).

The front of the side aero flares pitting or having a "sand blasted" look is normal wear and tear. As 4 years to Supercharge said its just from road debris hitting it. I highly doubt that the dealer would fix under warranty.

My side skirts did this also, but its a big spot that came off. Pretty poor from the dealer IMO.
There are the clear vinyls in a few spots, they should have been on these also.
You just dont get what you pay for anymore.

Been 10 years since I lived in Hillsboro. Has your car been dry yet this year?

I'm getting some BB ones soon and will be protecting them with clear vinyl. I read on here earlier that they are prone to wearing quickly.
It is officially called 3M Scotchgard Paint Protection Film Solution: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...gard-PPF/Home/

Even my aero flares are showing these symptoms. I unfortunately am chalking this up to normal wear and tear....damn debris jumping up and hitting it. Be thankful you guys don't have a BB. Looks kinnda weird to see little white dots on the front of the aero flares.

I did end up talking to my dealer last year, and it was considered "normal wear and tear", like others here have posted (and liked I figured they'd say, but it was worth a shot). To this point I haven't done anything to fix them - at one point I was going to look into getting them painted and then doing the vinyl protection, but I also have thought about getting side skirts instead and putting the vinyl on them.
Jedi - that's interesting that yours show white...cause where mine are peeling, it's black! So on your BB, you have white showing and on my SS I have black...too bad it's not reversed - we'd hardly notice it then...

Rather than starting another thread, adding my peeling issue.
Whitewater Pearl, and my side aero's are peeling front leading edge and back end at the wheel well. got it at 8,600 miles 8 months ago, first saw the peeling in February at around 12,000 miles
I have a hard time believing this is just wear and tear with this low milage. The peeling is fairly heavy, including 2 locations larger than a square inch. JUST the aero flares though.
And oddly enough, mine is peeling to show yellow. Since the base material is available in different colors, why wouldn't they use matching colors to apply the finish paint to?
My dealer is looking into warranty coverage. STILL, several months later.
