Painting a CAI.
Hey guys,
I figure winter is coming up so I'm not going to BUY anything major for my car for a little while, but I want it to continue looking better.
I have a MS CAI sitting in my basement, and before I install it, I'd like to paint it.
Right now, I'm thinking of painting it color matching to my VR exterior.
If I were to do that, what steps would I have to go through to do it? (Never painted anything before, but I need to learn )
So this is what I figure I'll need to do:
1)Primer
2)Very light layer
3)Slightly denser layer
4)Top layer
5)Clearcoat
6)Clearcoat again?
Any suggestions/additions to this would be VERY appreciated.. Also, is it easy to get a spraypaint to color match VR? I know the color code is on the forum somewhere, but I've never really gone "paint shopping". (Special paint needed?)
I know I may screw it up once or twice, or I may have dripping issues, but I'm willing to sand down and re-do as necessary. Is there a foolproof way to stop drip from occurring while painting on a round object?
Anyhow, thanks in advance!

I would go with powder coating for a CAI. You might have to pay extra if you want to get an exact match to your VR paint job, and if you want a shiny finish there are clear coats available as well. I think it will hold up much better than any type of paint job you throw at it, and it really won't be expensive to do.

You don't get ceramic in red. Usually it's black or silver.
you can definitely get it powder coated in that color. I wanted to keep the temps down in the intake more than anything else. So matte black ceramic coating it was.
