Question Plastic film?

I don't know if this is a "Shinka" thing or regular RX-8. On the body of the car, lower rear wheel area, there is a rectangular plastic film.

I first saw it when I was buying the car bacause there was a little wax build up around the edges that made it noticable. When I asked, the sales guy said it was to protect against road debris. OK

Due to a "ding" at purchase, the dealer need to repaint the passenger rear quarter. I got it back yesterday and noticed today that the "film" is missing on that side. It's still on the driver's side.

Does this really serve a purpose or was it part of the "shipping protection"? Should I tell the dealer to replace the missing one or take the other one off?

yes it's a part designed to protect against road debris, have them put a new one on on the passenger rear quarter.

Call to the dealer is done. It's been added to their list of things "to do" when they fix my leather seat.

Thanks for input!

Mine had dirt under them on the rear passenger ones under the door edge.

They said "So". Anyone know where we can get these ourselves and how much $ they cost?
