There is the JDM one (very bright, meant to be a rear fog light ONLY). And a version by Derwankel that is more of an accent light and can be left on with your other running lights.

There have been a number of threads on this. Search for "rear fog light".

Arrow Jdm.....

The JDM one can be sourced here.

It lights up like a laser beam, I replaced the bulb with an LED cluster, to keep the light level around the same as the running lights.

FYI, derwankel's rear fog light is top notch.

If I want one just as a rear fog light for those rare days when there's pea soup, super thick fog—and not as a routine running light—would the JDM one be best??

If you really want a rear fog light, the JDM one from Canzoomer (or anywhere else you can buy the full JDM kit from) is the way to go.

I have it installed on my car. I was going to do a DIY, but ran out of time. If you have questions about the install just ask. I've been through it once, so I know whats going on with it.

(I know I have no regrets on buying the rear fog light.. since I wanted it as a fog light for those 3 or 4 days a year where it's REALLY bad outside, yet I have to drive somewhere in it.)

I got a buddy in Suisun.. I have the JDM installed (for fog) and it has all the handy logic built in. Turns off with front fog light, etc, etc..

I hear good things about derwankles rear accent light but don't have any first hand knowledge...

I'll soon be getting my THRS (Teufels Hinteres Rotary Symbol) so it should look something like this:

Think I'm gonna go with the JDM kit. Seems like derwankel's rear fog (which everyone agrees is great) is not a true fog light, but rather more a "running light" for fun that looks cool. Apparently it's not nearly as bright as the OEM (JDM) rear fog, which is visible from some distance behind in a very dense fog (so you don't get rear-ended). The OEM rear fog is meant to be turned on only rarely—maybe two or three a times a year—when there's a thick, dense, dangerous fog—the kind that results in those 37-car chain-reaction collisions we hear about.

Searching threads, I read of a number of people who ordered the JDM kit and found it way too bright ("like a beacon"). They added resistors or replaced the bulb with LEDs so it wouldn't be so blinding. But that's the whole point of a rear fog light! (I guess most people here who want the "rear fog light" don't really want one—they want a cool looking running light where the rear fog light goes, that they can turn on whenever they want. Which is fine, but different.)

Exactly ... the OEM is a "true" fog light. Mine is a conspicuity light. It does improve visibility from the rear ... but it is no beacon. It also is less than half the price. Anyway, if you seek a true rear fog light ... JDM is the way to go.

Here is my design:

I did a google search and found that a German RX-8 forum, someone made a rear rotary accent piece that fit with the Euro Rear fog light (same shape as the JDM).

http://www.google.com/search?q=Teufe...+Rotary+Symbol

It is "interesting" in the pictures, not sure if I'd want it though. (And since it's in German, I'm not sure if they're still available anyway.)

Borthervoodoo, where are you getting it from?

Yep, fray is correct. As you know there's a couple ways to "rig" the original rear rotary symbol and have it accomodate the the JDM fog light. A member from the German board "Tuefel" seems to make a quality product for the European market.

I'm waiting for the arrival to inspect fitment and then post a thread with some pictures.

According to that thread, he still had some 5 pieces available on the 17th of July. However he said on Page 11 that they are only available for members of that forum who were already there in April, and that he won't make any more than that batch. So I'm not sure what's the deal...

Mazdaparts shouldn't be down.. something is going wrong there.

Canzoomer was the only one I knew of with the full wiring kit including switch.

Mazdaparts last time I looked only had the light itself, not the full kit. (That may change once the site comes back alive...)

The whole thing....

The whole kit is very expensive.

...and difficult to put in, one of the mods here took weeks to finish the job.

I actually bought the switch, it is a "two-parter" the bottom half of the switch still controls the DCS, and the top piece runs the foglight.

Lots of wiring to do if you try to go all original, mine just has a switch in the trunk.

Rena my Rx8, just email Canzoomer.. he's VERY helpful. You want the full kit with DSC switch. That comes with the switch (combo DSC/Rear Fog Light), wiring harness for RHD (easy to modify for LHD, I have instructions) and the rear fog light.

I took my time on the install, took me about 8 hours.. If I was to do it again, I could do it in about 2.. By far the hardest part was cutting the rear bumper.. you have to cut a _LOT_ more then you think... but if you cut too much you are screwed..

I'm close if you want to see what the JDM kit looks like installed. BV and I got it for the same reason, fog. It's somewhat comforting to know you have a little added visibility for that 3 ton truck or SUV that issists on barreling though dense fog, not realizing they have no idea what is in front of them. This light definitely lets them know where I am
