Question Removal of Mazda logo decal

I've seen some of your photos which the mazda logo decal is removed from the nose piece. I plan to remove all the decals on my RX8 - that include the both front and rear mazda logo decal (the "M" shape), "mazda" and "RX-8" in the back. One question, for the rear "M" decal, is it a simple stick on or it has got screws under it?

Any reply will be highly appreciated! Don't want to start removing the "M" decal and discover there are screws under it. Thanks!

From what I understand the only 'badging' that does not have alignment posts is the RX-8 logo on the back. All others are supposed to have alignment posts, which mean filler and paintwork. Please anyone correct me if I'm wrong...

Cool Front......

Also just quoting 'what i heard', the RX8 on the back, AND the round 'M' on the front have no posts.
But there ARE holes behind it!
So that doesn't help, does it?

i have recently tried to de-badge the 8......
then i found out that.....
there are 2 holes behind the rear M badge
there are 3 holes behind the front M badge
there are 3 holes nehind the Mazda badge
there are NO holes behind the RX-8 badge.

so, i took them all off, painted the front & rear M badges and Mazda badge in black and left the RX-8 badge out.

my 8 is black, so it looks "cleaner" now :D

Does everyone know you can get EXACT duplicate colors in a spray can? www.paintscratch.com I've used it on my blue WRX and my mother in laws 1991 Acura Legend that is metallic maroon. Both came out excellent.

shocka,
there is this spare parts store here in sydney australia used to mix colour for you and store them in normal spray cans. it was quick and quite cheap. for some reasons, they dont do it anymore. not sure if there are such places like this in your area.

if you are doing it yourself, make sure to sand the surface back (you can use fine sand paper with water), dry the surface and apply plastic primer before apply the colour. after a couple of coats, apply clear coats over it. do one layer at a time and be patient. (you can get plastic primer and clear coat in spray can form)

or.... you can always remove and prepare the and get it done at a panel shop/smash repair shop.

Hey Ezzy,

How about some pics of the job you did on yours? I'd really like to see how it turned out.

looks good from what I can see. I've considered the same on my black 8. Eventually I'll probably strip the emblems and fill the holes anyway.

I'm having my Ti's badges plated in opal-finish Black Pearl.
Costs about $80.00 per badge, but it's awesome-looking, and warranteed for life.
Pics when installed later this month.

Has anybody tried filling in the holes themselves?

· A little fiberglass sheet in the back to hold the paint
· Touch-up paint to fill in the hole
· Megiuars sanding block with 2500 and 3000 grit sandpaper
· A little polish

Would this work, or is filling the hole a little more complicated than that?

Is there anyplace online I can see the opal-finish Black Pearl you're referring to? I'm very curious. It sounds gorgeous.

Not that I know of.
I haven't seen it,either,but I can picture it easily.
A custom shop in my area reccy'd it to me,my badges have to be removed and sent to TX or AZ ,I forget which,to be plated.
The warranty's lifetime,it's an opal-finish charcoal,and at $245.00 it certainly wasn't cheap.....
I will post pics of all these 'mods when done,it'll be at the end of the month,as there's a party calling my name in Amsterdam, with alla' my friends and family attending,so the shop kepps it (inside, covered) for me until I get back. Now that's service,God bless em!

Black pearl's gonna' be a LOT like Mazda's "dark-chrome" but with the refracted pinks and purples of opal in direct lighting.

Is one place (not where mine's being done, but) they do the b/p plating, and offer real carbon fiber dash pcs,and OEM dash 'coating' (sounds neat-o,eh?).......as well.
Kind of a neat site,I just googled it looking for 'black pearl plating'.
So......if you wanna' see what it's all about,I suggest you lookey there

Has anyone considered using one of Polak's rotary decals to cover one of the "M" emblems? Can someone tell us if his rotary decal will fit over the holes?

I figured to spend about $4K in odds and ends to get my car where I want it,even though it's new.
This is the ongoing list:

this space helps me keep track of it all.

depending on hole placement i don't think they are big enough to fit however i've used pieces of vinyl i just cut in to finger nail sized squares to cover up rock chips.
