Question Rust on door and below door

Everywhere on my door where there is a chip from rocks it is rusting, when I wash my car I can rub it away but it keeps coming back....i'm going to touch it up soon but will it continue to rust even after touching it up? Should this already be rusting?

anywhere metal is exposet to the elements, it will rust. you want to take care of it immediately....rust is a cancer that is nearly impossible to stop if you let it go. be sure to touch it up and clear cote the touchup paint to seal it out....trust me, i've dealt with a lot of rust buckets in the past......

mikeb how is damage caused by road debris covered under warranty? If this is covered than shouldn't damage to the oil coolers by rocks be covered? It would seem to me that if it's rusting without any visable signs of damage then yes it would be covered, but this is caused by rocks and road debris so how is it covered?

Having worked in a body shop I realize how serious rust can be. Most rust is very serious even if its only a very small amount. Most body shops will not warranty rust repair because it is so hard to completely get rid of all of the rust. Then if you put paint on top of it, it just continues to spread under the paint. The best thing to do is to buy some kind of rust eater. This product can be found at most auto shops or marine shops. Here is a link of an example of the product. http://www.sailnet.com/store/item.cfm?pid=26902 Note that this is only an example this product comes under many names and brands. We (The body shop) used the 3M brand but I am not sure how much this costs because I never had to buy it because the shop paid for it. Hope this helps.

I bring my car into the shop on Monday, I'll find out then. Thanks for all the advice though, probably in the end I will just have to buy that stuff to help stop rust.

Thanks

Back from dealership and they said that it is not covered...anywhere there is metal it is going to rust and should be touched up right away he said...so oh well looks like everytime I get a chip I have to touch it up and have 100's of little touch up marks on my car.

i hate the mazda touch up paint, the sunlight silver touch up comes on way too light and never sets properly. and i will shake the thing up for 5 hours straight to try to get better color distribution/consistency and texture consistency too to no avail
