Well you can count out rust - as your hood is aluminum. Perhaps you were parked under a tree? If you can figure it out, what it is that is, then you'll have some idea what will remove it.

what you need to do is go to http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc and get a clay bar and they should come right off . What you have is rail dust for your car being shipped .

It is a clay bar that comes with a solution you spray on the area and rub the clay bar on it, it takes out impurities in the paint. You might want to repost in the "Show and shine section" to get more help :D

How long have you had the '8? Is this the first time you have washed it? If not, and you have not noticed the spots before, look for something getting onto it where you park, etc. What have you tried to get it off - soap, wax/cleaner, bug/tar remover, etc. Give us some more info!! I agree, it's NOT rust on an aluminum hood.

this is something that I see in alot of the cars that I get in from other car lines . What it is is dust from the wheels on the train from our cars being shipped from the west cost . If your not willing to deal with it a good bodyshop will claybar your car than wetsand and buff your hood for $100-200 . Depends on how bad it is . If you have a good camera please get a pic and post it and I can tell better if it is rail dust .

I saw the same on my new Sunlight Silver during its first wash and wax. I took it to two body shops and they both said it can be buffed out without compromising the clear coat. The dealership is taking care of it for me.

i have a large oak tree in my front yard, if I park under it and it rains, i get brown stains all over the car (silver) they look like coffee stains, and they are hard as hell to get off...I just wash the car and scrub real good and they come off, having a good coat of wax makes them come off a little easyer.
