Seibon TS Hood on Velocity Red

Well, I have to say I am pretty impressed with my new hood.... I wasnt sure about fitment, I wasnt sure if the scoops would be obnoxious, and most of all I have heard horror stories about Carbon Fiber finishes looking like ****.... I guess I'm a lucky one because I LOVE it... I know some will say its too much, but I love it. I had planned on painting in the spring, but the jury is still out on that one...

Anyways, here are some pics. I did alot of searching for the TS hood with no luck, so hopefully these will help those looking for some ideas on how it looks on a car.

The finish is perfect, even though some of the pictures make it look otherwise... Its hard to take pics of CF...

I painted the silver grills black, and there are water diverters included unfortunately they dont fit with the MS strut bar installed.... Sheiza! Oh well, have to make sure I dont go out and play when it rains hard...lol

I had no idea they made a Varis knock off. I've only seen the OEM, the one Mike B has. Where did you get it and how much shipped. I've been eyeing the VIS Varis one for $600 shipped.

Sammy,
Who makes those extra bars and master cylinder stopper? Very trick. Just did a Google search for Impex (off one of the bars) and saw this: http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/disp...ofile48&bhcp=1

Why isn't that your sig?

The extra bars was my own design and it's a one off custom made piece. The master cylinder stopper came with the Mazdaspeed struct bar. PM me if you are interested on the bars.

Thanks for all the comments guys! I went in to my body shop and asked them how much to paint the hood and front bumper and they told me if I took off the bumper, and all the parts on it. They would repair the rock chips, repaint, paint the hood and blend into the fenders for $600.

I had to jump on that! Goes in on monday!

I love the way 'raw' CF looks, but that hood, painted,is gonna' look sharp! Post some pix when you get 'er done, please!
Next spring,I think I'll pick one of those hoods up,too,
since they take about 5 minutes to install, why not?

any of you guys using hood clips? I've heard of stories of them popping open at high speed, or when hitting bumps.

if the seibon stuff has an underframe, then maybe not as needed.

No need for hood pins, the Seibon hoods have a fiberglass undercarriage that supports the CF nicely,in fact,I get no cowl shake at all. The OEM hinges fit great,as did the latch. I have no worries about the hood 'popping open' any more than I did the OEM hood.
My Seibon CF trunk is 'in the mail',I should have it next week. That install will take a few minutes,as the 3rd brake light has to be retrofit.
I'm particularly happy to be losing all identifying badging on my 8,the cops already have little clue what it is,and this'll coRnfuse e'm even more, lmao!

how about shutting the hood? with the stock I let it drop from about 1-2 foot high and it locks itself. Some people have had CF crack when pushing down to latch.

Well,geesh,be nice to your toys!!
I close the hood gently, and push it shut with a 'click'.
I didn't ever 'drop' my stock hood,I certainly won't slap the CF around.
As an added benefit, the lower vent on my hood sits nicely over my Typhoon intake (also in CF!)
This has resulted in very direct cold-air intake, and a noticable increase in,um,zoom zoom.
An added bonus-the engine absolutely screams, and people get the f* out of the way when they hear her screamin' at 5500rpms.....
It took my ECU about half a day to reconfigure to all the cold air she's sucking in,and it still stutters here and there, but no matter.....

yeah, I don't plan on dropping it shut. But after searching around, I've seen a huge number of issues people have had with CF hoods. Just trying to find out how to avoid them myself Especially since I drop the throttle on a regular basis and the last thing I need is the hood flying off and killing someone.

If I don't run +6000rpms every time I drive my 8 then I get depressed,lol!
Thses hoods have a come a long way since their inception, trust me.
The fiberglass undercarriage that Seibon uses is first-rate,the hood's nice and stiif, like I said,no cowl shake at well over 100mph-chewcked that out ten minutes after installation, heehee!
The CF trunk at $700 and the hood at $800,for the quality, well, imo you cannot beat it. I like Seibon over VIS,I simply think Seibon makes better-engineered CF.
