you have such a vivid imagination pixie..haha
don't do it! Shaved door handles are meant for show cars only. Not a good idea for an everyday driver. Here are downsides to door poppers:
1. No matter how great of a kit you get the motors will burn out. When the motor burns out the actuator will fail and you are f#cked (unless you have an emergency release handle elsewhere in the car).
2. You have to get your whole door repainted when you shave them, if you just repaint your doors the rest of your body color will be mismatched (silver being a very hard color to match). So you must repaint your whole car.
3. Finding a reputable shop that can do it right. I had my door handles shaved on my old car and it definetly was not worth the hassle. (went through 4 different shops each one of them doing it wrong).
4. You will need to have an alarm/ remote system with aux buttons.
5. Find a really good body shp that can even handle shaving it. There are a lot of shops out there that do shytty work so find a good one.
Those are my reasons why you should not do it..
So trust me

Pixie,
I'm sure it would look REALLY cool on your car but everyone is right, they're just not practical at all. Sorry for bursting your bubble.

The guy on the forum that has it done is Deviod, check out his site!!!
Here are some quick pics I found
I left some feedback on his site asking how much the shaved door handles ran him and he told me for a good job it would be roughly $5,000 so personally I LOVE the look and I really want them, I'm not able to fork over 5G's yet.

5 g's!!! hot dam, then he got ripped off..i had my door handles shaved for only 1300. But look at the pics carefully, you can see that the body work is very wavy.

I remember someone bringing up the "wavy" look on his doors. I think he posted some up close pictures and it turned out it was just a really weird reflection in those pics.
Perfect fit or not, $5,000 is A LOT to pay for doors!

ah geez, are you telling me someone quoted you 5 grand for shaved handles?!?! are you shtting me? They obviously don't want to do the job so they're pricing themselves out if that is the case. (most shops won't do small jobs anymore as they make next to no $ on them) If you've already got solenoids you can easily wire those right up to your stock keyless entry. (ok, maybe not easily, but a decent installer could figure it out pretty easy) Shaved doors aren't that bad at all, I had them on a previous vehicle and while there are drawbacks, (there are drawbacks for just about any mod if you really want to go there) this is not a "for show cars only" mod by any means. This could easily be done and you could even hide the emergency release in the trunk, front bumper somewhere, shoot, there's lots of places. I got a quote for mine for 500 bucks and that included blending the doors. I am going to do it someday, but not any time soon, I wanted to do it since the first day I got my car but I got married right after I got my car, then divorced, then something else happened and so on and so on, it's really not that big a deal, it would be no different than doing it to a mini-truck, and i know our car looks a guhzillion times better without the handles. The other idea I had was swapping our driver side handle with a JDM left door handle as it doesn't have a keyhole and it would be a very subtle touch, no luck on getting a door handle yet though (lame)

From what I remember a large chunk of the price had to do with the fact if you look at where our door handles go, the sheet metal has got a bend in it (one of our cars lovely curves) So it's not just a piece of plain metal you are putting back in or putty or anything like that. I still LOVE the look, and plan on doing it when I have all kinds of cash to blow (which will probably never happen) but yeah, just ask devoid. I wish I still had that email he sent me.

even with that bend/curve in our door it's not that hard to do, my handles I did have shaved on a previous vehicle were on a body line and they came out perfect, any competent body shop can do it, it's not rocket science. Even most trucks, hot rods, etc. are not perfectly flat.

I think im still going to do it...and that emergency release thing sounds good...I didnt even know abot that. U guys have me convinced it was a bad idea until I saw those pics, it looks so good lol. I might wait awhile to do it because I want it done right before I repaint my whole car (its goin purple ) so that way I dont have to worry about blending. I'm thinkin by june or july I should have the handles shaved, my kit on, and my 8 will be purple...thats my goal
