Shinka wing???

I have 2 questions:

1) does it create more downforce?

2) how is it installed?(I dont want to screw holes in my trunk)

I havn't checked but I wonder if mazda sells these seperately

Not sure how its installed, but are you actually going to be driving the car hard enough to need downforce?

That is simply a euro trunk lip spoiler, are you saying the shinka models in the US get one? I don't think they do and that picture is probably an overseas shinka? That part is not sold in the US, or at least it wasn't before.

Anyway, it's installed by double sided tape and 4 tap screws, so yeah, to do it correctly you would have to tap holes in the trunk.

It's "supposed" to create less air disturbance; I don't believe it will actually help fuel economy. I thought that is why they had them installed in Europe in the first place but it was just a guess.

I currently have one installed on my Titanium that I bought off someone in the UK. I haven't taken pictures of it yet.

In Europe, the standard fitment of this spoiler is mandatory on all RX-8's.....for fuel economy reasons! You can't order an RX-8 without one, apparently. It (allegedly) reduces the Cd from .31 to .30 and this is enough to convince the boffins it should be standard.

I like the look of the thing, but I don't swallow the fuel saving propaganda. It weighs 5 lbs.

Gomez.

The car in that picture has a British Columbia license plate on it.
It's from the www.canadiandriver.com review of that car that came out earlier this week. According to the review the Shinka comes with the lip spoiler. (At least in Canada.)

Audi had to put the lip style spoiler on the TT because of many accidents from insufficient downforce.

Man, that photo is way too big. This is a Mazda forum....! Audi put that spoiler on so that thing didn't look so much like a Karmann Ghia .

I remember Audi doing that for the TT--but I don't think the lack of downforce actually caused 'many accidents'--but high speed stability was very very poor without the spoiler.
