Tint Jobs/appearances
Hey i was wondering because i want to tint my rx8 to match it with black but in cali its 70%. Is there a site where it shows you how the tint looks like every time you go lower or higher? Also i heard you have to watch out for the factory tint if there is because that adds on to the degree if you get pulled over

CA law allows as much tint as you like on the rear windows. ANY / ALL tint on the front two windows (and windshield) is illegal in california.
With that said; I did 5% on the rear, and 20% (or was it 15%) on the front.
No real websites that I know of but every tint shop that I've ever walked into has samples on display.

really? i thought the front winshield is not illegal my friend tinted his rsx but i dont know to what degree. It just has to allow 70% sunlight in then its good right? So does that mean i have to ask them for 30% to make it 70% light in correct i think i dont know if im getting it correct. But i dont know what i want that looks good on the rear windows etc. But a lot of people tend to get their rear windows etc around 30's?

Thats really dark. Haha it looks great btw. Do you think i can get the degree of it like was the rears like 50% light visible or even less? Because i dont know what i want to do to my rear+back since i can make them any tint the front side windows gonna make them dark as possible which is 70% light through for cali law.

dhan: got your PM but answering here in case others have similar questions:
Rear windows are all 5%.
Front two windows are 15%.
In other words: my front windows are HIGHLY illegal in CA. Keep in mind that ANY tint applied to the front windows is illegal in CA. If you put 70% it would still be as illegal is my 15% so you might as well go a little darker.
I've been lucky in the sense that cops haven't harassed me but I imagine at SOME point, someone will give me a ticket. Oh well, if they do I have to get it removed, have the ticket signed off on, and then reapply the tint.
A very popular choice for the front windows would be 35%. That's light enough that most police officers won't bug you but you never know...
My suggestion is to go to a local tint shop and look at their samples. They will almost ALWAYS have glass tinted in the lobby (on some display) showing the different tint levels.

35% is basically 100-35=65% light coming through your window correct i just want to get these correct. Also when you said 5% and 15% does that mean 5% light coming through your window or 95%? and for the front for cali they said 70% light going through

forget the 70% figure, it's not accurate. That only applies to a coating put on the window by the car maker. (ie; the very subtle bluish tint color on new Mercedes, etc)
5% = 5% of light coming through.
5% = 5% of light coming through.

Oh wow thats really dark lol barely no sun coming through haha. I think i what i mite do is 70% for the front window and for the rear windows 20% or something. I dont know for the back window because its also important to see? n isnt it hard to see with like 5% lol especially at night?

when I first got the tint it took some getting used to.
My last car had 20% rear, 35% up front and it looked great! NO problem at all seeing at night.
If you live in CA; 70% is not going to do ANYTHING for you. You won't even notice it.

70% is legal in cali. But factory tint counts too.
I would just go 35 in front. Cops usually don't pull you over for something stupid like tint. If you go 35 front and like 15 rear, they won't notice the front is that tinted because it contrasts with the rear.

I dont know if factory tint is already on there because im going to go pick up my rx8 tommorow at the mazda dealer haha. But yeah im going to go with the law haha. The front winshield probably the 4inch thingy rule. Front side windows 70% and i guess rear n back window all 5%? But also i heard you have to tint your mirrors if you get ur back window tinted? ALSO when you said 35% front that is 35% off from the law which is 70% so thats a nono for me?

i got 15 front and back with the strip on the windshield. like i said in another thread, the only thing i regret is not getting limo tint. it's illegal already, might as well have gone all the way.

youre gonna wish you got 5% lol. it looks so much better. besides the shop that i go to said that he doesnt even carry 70% any more because when people would come back to pick up their car they'd say hey can you tint my front windows now... and he would tell them he already did.

Want to be Law safe =D Do you think itl ruin my vision at all the 5%? like at night or something? Also hopefully it doesnt mess up my backing up at night haha.

i picked semi-metallic 45% fronts and 35% rears. those type trick the eyes quite a bit being that they are reflective and that i always keep my car clean. the tint looks like its just glare coming off at angles. and with the easy transitions front to rear, it doesn't stand out too much.
they aren't the easiest tint to tell, but they also aren't that easy to look thru as well. during the day, while you can still see into the window, but alot of times the light will bounce back. and at night since its already dark outside, its not too dark at all inside.
i prefer semi-metallic type tints also because they actually keep your car cooler and are not as noticeable.
