Tint Question Concerning Rearview

I searched briefly for an answer to this, but haven't yet found it. Will tinting my rear window in any way negatively affect how the auto-dimming rearview mirror works? I'm scheduled to have Madico (Lintec) Wincos 30 front/20 rear installed Monday morning.

The rear view dimmer seems to respond as well as normal though it really isn't needed as much when after you tint. A really dark tint (5%) will hardly let ANY light through so you won't have to worry about it but actually seeing out of it is diffcult as well.. Car lights behind you are just white specs. Go with 20-25% for visibility with looks/light dimming effects.

I have 15% in the rear.........I never noticed any difference in the auto dimming, but it would seem to be that the sensor is on the mirror itself and probably looks out the front(believe it or not) and just adjusts it based on whether its day or night.

Well....after looking at page 3-31 of the manual, looks like it has two sensors in that mirror, one looking forward and one looking towards the rear.

Yes, it just works on the light differential from front to back.

Thanks for the responses. I wasn't sure what triggered the auto-dimming feature to begin with, but the light difference front to rear makes sense.

I put black tape over the sensor on the front side of the mirror, seems like every suv likes to tailgate me so this keeps the auto dim always on.

Suits me fine. The auto-dimming wasn't quite dark enough for my preference anyway. Looking forward to getting something nice done for my baby this morning.

mine works perfectly fine with 5% in the 3 rear windows and 35% in the 2 front windows. actually i like it this way more because less light also gets into the cockpit of the car when a truck is behind you.
