trunk replacement?!?!? help
Recently someone hit the passenger side rear end of my car and ran. They managed to destroy the taillight, bumper, trunk, quarter panel, and even did some damnage to the body.
I went to insurance today and they are charging $707.00 to replace the trunk.
I asked them if I could replace it with a carbon fiber trunk, they said yes as long as it doesnt excced the amount for the OEM one.
What do you guys think?
Should I get a carbon fiber trunk?
or
should I ask them to debadge my new trunk?
both will be of no cost to me.
The only reason I am worried right now is because of filiment. Does anyone know what trunk I could get for about $700 shipped that would have the best filiment.
The only ones I can think of right now are Vis, and Seibon. are there any other brands?
If anyone can provide a picture of a Sunlight silver with a carbon fiber trunk on it would greatly be appreciated.
I'll provide pictures of the damage later on today.

Also consider the look of a CF trunk without a CF hood, do you have a CF hood?
You may want to consider trying to find a hood in the FS section and spending the money on a wing or spoiler...
Auto Bahn is around $650 but shipping will prob be more than 50 bucks,,,
AutoExe has an integrated lip in thier trunk...
Even if the fitment is off with a CF the body shop will probably want to get it as close as possible because they will think the fitment issue will have to do with the accident...

Just looked up the AutoExe trunk and its $689, I think you should look into this one, not to many people have it a sleek and subtle and being AutoExe it will fit well and def has street cred...
The only problem is getting in a short amount of time, usually the Japanese kits take anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months...

Just get the carbon trunklid and have it painted. Its not a racecar, so no point in trying to act like it is. However, the weight savings is always good, so just paint the topside...Nothing to lose that way. Its gunna look rediculous any other way.

I dont study screen names, so I dont know the history...seeing how its a street car that looks bone stock, its not exactly a racecar. Weight savings help on everything, thats why I suggested getting it. The next reason is, the bodyshop will buy a knockoff from Hong Kong, for 1/5 the price...and you will get a peice of crap. I know you guys wanna be racecar drivers, but its still really just a normal vehicle. If you have the hood, roof, and trunk...then by all means leave it carbon. I am all for the carbon, but if you only get the trunk...just paint it.
Rotr8...why be an ******* for no reason? I mean seriously....

What does carbon trunk have to do with a race car? did I say I want my car to look like a race car? And why would a body shop buy a replica of a replica? vis and seibon are both replica companies. The body shop will buy what I tell them to buy. You don't even know me; how can you call me a "wanna be" race car driver?
I dont know if you want your car to look like a race car.
A body shop would replace with replacement parts because they are 1/5 the price. Since carbon fiber parts typically dont have cheap knock off parts, I recomended going carbon. You didnt know if you should go with stock, or carbon, so I suggested going with carbon and painting it. So you would get all the benifits of carbon, while still looking stock.
The body shop will buy what you tell them to buy, true. But 99% of shops will be cheap replacements(non oem) if you go stock, this is why I advised against stock. You can buy stock replica hoods all day long for $150....you think a bodyshop wont try to pocket the profit and stick you with korean parts...pshh.
I never said YOU were a wanna be racecar driver.
I own a bodyshop, I was just giving advise.

the CF trunk will not save any weight compared to OEM since it is aluminum. the only reason people buy CF is the look so why paint it? if he wants it painted just get the OEM, but it will cost you to get it shaved.
