Then you are buying garbage CF #1. It should only look 3d, if it actually IS 3d....then LOL, thats some junk.

And #2, I can knock dents all over it and its still going to be like glass once its painted. If your painter cant prep the surface for a perfect surface, he is in the wrong business.

CF is lighter than aluminum....

There is weight savings, although I don't care. I think deedub weighed his cf hood around ~10lbs lighter than the OEM one.

I still am not sure which one to get. The only reason I am looking at cf now is because I can get a cf hood for free, but still am unsure how it will look like. I can get the OEM trunk shaved for free as well.

Thats why I suggested getting it painted to match if you decided against the look of carbon....this way you get the carbon lid for free(sorta) and keep oem look. If you leave it carbon, I highly recomend getting roof and hood to match.

OEM with debadging is also a clean look but requires filling the loactor holes for the emblems which the shop may not want to do as part of the install especially if its going through insurance... I have the Mazda and RX8 debadged and left the flying M,,, if you want to see pics let me know...

LOL. Show me some wavy carbon and I can tell you, thats some backyard junk. I have at least 100ft of carbon on hand, and lay it....I know what carbon should look like. If its not smooth, its a reject. No matter how bad it is, it can be fixed with paint.

heres a random carbon hood pic...
http://deftracing.com/carbon_fiber_h...t_575_lg14.jpg

Looks pretty slick to me....Prime it once, block it, base it, clear it till its glass. Who said I ordered korean parts? I know they sell that crap to every body shop around....95% of mine are OEM. The other 5% are stupid things, like paying $500 for a grille when you only need the emblem. So, I was trying to inform this guy of the very real fact that many bodyshops try and give people cheap knockoff parts...and you are accusing me of doing this?

If you are having holes filled, be aware that the shop is not going to weld up the aluminum holes. Its very very very unlikely. That leaves you with body filler plugging the holes, which will without a shadow of a doubt....crack around the hole over time. If you car is outdoors, it will happen sooner of course.

WTF is uninformed? I told the guy what to look out for,,,,what have you done? I guess the advise could be generic....it goes for any vehicle in any state...so I will go with that. You guys have seen to many ricers throw paint on cheap *** fiberglass parts with poor prepwork....a real shop didnt do that work. A cf part can look like absolute perfection when painted.....anyone who says differently, please put your money where your mouth is.

Na, it's good; according to them they have to paint the hood anyway. So they will debadge it at no cost. I still can't decide which route to go ahhh

If you know anything about painting CF hoods you would know that you clearly missed a step of prep and paint before you prime it from keeping inconsistant levels of heat soak that will distort the top coats when painting CF hoods but since your an expert like you are with all the other dumb **** you say I'll let you figure it out on your own...

I posted the steps to get it smooth, and paint it. You will still have to degrease it, sand it, and wash it. I dont know who told you any different, but they are wrong. I have one thats painted for going on 6 years, and its yet to have a single issue, and a fiberglass one thats going on 30 years...Prove me wrong, I gotta see thing one.

Here's a question...Do you own a paintgun?
or
How many cars have you painted? How many carbon parts have you painted?

who cares? in the end, if he wants to have a painted trunk he is probably not going to paint a CF one. all your advice is irrelevant in this thread.

I'd take the freebie either way, painted or not. Not sure why he would choose a stocket over a free carbon upgrade...een if they look identical...but one is ligher. Seems kinda strange to me.

You were disrespecting my post, I could care less about being called a noob. I know my ****, I dont say something will work if I havent done it. I get alot of posts disrespecting comments that I know are correct, by guys with thousands of posts but zero knowlege of how things are done. I have 50+ cars, I can do anything to any of them, its what I do. I have cars with paintjobs worth more than most of the cars on here. I love painting cars, so I know how to make them perfect, painting carbon is childs play compared to what I have done in the past.

1st, I can go with that, wont argue that point.
2nd chrism doesnt think it will look good when painting over carbon, I know thats not the case. It looks exactly the same when done. Any reputable shop can do this.
3rd, I never said the shop would f-up the order.

^^^ probably the only constructive statement you've put in here, but again your assuming that the shop is a hack and that imput wouldn't take his car to a descent shop. Any good shop will weld shut the holes just double check if this is your final choice, to go with a shaved and debadged look...

The shop is very reputable, they will fill the holes properly. The body shop belongs to a Honda dealer and its ranked somewhere in the top 10 or so best Honda place.

I'm leaning towards cf now, because of this awesome photochop of kelrx8's car that DavidR did:

The only thing that I'm still worried about is the filament.

yeah i know nothing about carbon fiber, body shops, paint or fitment.......i just happened to be in a body shop 2-3 times a week, know all the east coast 8s that are heavily modded and drive a miata.....some of this makes sense and some dont.....but i bet people will trust my advice just a touch more than yours for some reason.....and by the way my 8 had its holes welded when i debadged it....but thats because my guy aint a hack.....also just for info on this thread depending on the manufacturer the oem cf hood is usually 1-3 pounds heavier than stock but the trunk is a few pounds lighter.....only because most cf hood manufacturers are just laying the cf over fiberglass for durability

the threats and thread crapping need to stop. If you can't say something politely, shut up, and don't post.
