Install Underglow

Has anyone installed or tried to install underglow on their Rx-8 and how did it work for you? Do the tubes hide under the bottom or fo they hang below? Thanks a ton and please leave detailed responses. I believe Underglow would look great on mine.

I can't speak for everyone here, but I'll give you a tip. That sort of mod is considered "ricey", and would be akin to a good looking woman having a bad make-up job. Don't do it.

... maybe you should consider installing those Side mirror lights which lights up the area around the doors when you open them.

Yep, pure rice.

The typical 'all show and no go'... not to mention you've added weight to an otherwise lightweight car?

*sigh*

Maybe I am the only one here but if someone has the money to purchase an 8, I believe that gives them the right to modify, personalize, paint it pink if they want too. Some modifications look gaudy yet others look great (Mazda Speed). I tell you what man, putting an underglo kit on this car WOULD look nice, only if you lower the car. The last thing you want to do is put those type of accessories on a vehicle and leave the rest stock. It's like putting a 3' wing on a stock Taurus, it just wouldn't look right. Correct me if I am wrong

:D It's his car ... let him do what he wants. But IMHO I think a few "R-Type" badges and a few VTEC stickers would look better, plus you get the added benefit of an extra 50hp and 20lb-ft for every badge and sticker!:p

Comon Aggro! let's not get rediculous with the HP/TQ gains....
It's somewhere between 1-5 HP gain per sticker :p That's why there are so many on a lot of cars out there.

Strider I think you are underestimating the 'perceived' power of the "R". Those HP/TQ numbers are fairly conservative.

Had a conversation with a guy that owned a Dodge Neon (not the SRT-4) at the our local movie theater. Lot's of rice on Friday and Saturday nights. He told me that his modded Neon can pull on a Corvette Z06. I think a regular Neon has about 130hp and a stock Z06 has about 405hp. The HP difference is about 275hp. The mods that I could see or that he told me about were 4 or 5 stickers, a large aluminum rear wing, a loud fart can, lowered by cutting the springs, CAI and really dark tint. The wheels were really nice

Large rear wing decreases traction on front-drive car. The fart can actually decreases HP because of decreased back pressure on the 4 cylinder engine. Cutting the springs weakened his suspension and put his wheels out of camber. CAI would actually add about 5-7hp. Super dark tint in CA just gets you tickets. So that leaves only the stickers to make up for the HP deficiency. Do the math.

275hp/4stickers = 68.75hp per sticker
275hp/5stickers = 55hp per sticker

This guy pulled on the Z06 so those numbers are still conservative. :D

Of course it does. But if they want to come here and post about their ricey mods, then we have the right to slam them for it.

If done right...

Almost all, if not all, high line cars have suttle interior foot well lights. If done right in the RX-8, why would this be considered "ricey"?

He's not talking about footwell lights. Those can actually be quite useful.

He's talking about the circus or town fair type colored flourescent tubes that go on the underbody of the car, so when you drive around, you look like a total ***.

Which is why everybody promptly flamed the hell out of him; it's just sad to see that happen to Civics, nevermind RX-8s. The people that understand the point of the car is to be lightweight and by adding weight it takes away from the car, will appreciate it most.

Obviously mikeb is the only one that 'stood up' for his ricey 'brother in arms' but if you've seen his Civic pictures... it's a good clue why.

hercules, Youre just the internet tough guy.
If this guy wants lights on the side of his car thats his car so he can. What are you or who are you the car god. You are a grown man and act like a teenager. Grow up you dont have to go thru life talking down to others to make yourself feel better.

geez shut up about the rice thing already...the RX-8 is already considered a rice rocket so all you people drive one! every Japanese import can be considered rice simply because it comes from Asia...

beyond that, if it weren't for "good" rice, the RX-8 would never look as good as it does now...if it weren't for ricers in the past demanding bigger rims with low profile tires, hyper white bulbs that are now HIDs, shorter springs, ground effects and more aerodynamic styling, louder bigger exhausts, etc. we'd all still be driving cars that resemble Buicks...so PLEASE quit making fun of yourselves, you drive a rice rocket! admit it...

and if you hate them so much, buy American, German, or Italian...

:D <--- btw, that's a rice smiley isn't it?

PS - i'm not condoning those underglow lights...i think they are what i consider "bad" rice - all show and no go...plus yea, you can get pulled over for those i believe

Quit with the attacks.

If he wants to put the lights on his car, then let him. And if you don't like it, that's your problem, as you won't be driving his car. All of you, stop attacking him. Now. There is no call to put down anyone else just because YOU don't like what they've done to THEIR car.

Yeah. How can you dare ask about an apearance change in an apearance forum. The nerve of some people.

I wouldnt go for the undercar neon, but if the car where lowered it might look good.

i disagree: rice hasn't anything to do with where it comes from (although that is related to the origin of the word).

rice is cheesiness in car modification, such as poor craftsmanship, poor taste (as in making the front of a '92 Civic hatchback look like a Mercedes E Class), or just general car stupidity.

there is a clear and definable difference in my mind between rice (some idiot kid with stickers, heavy *** rims, vinyl on the paint, and a non-functional wing on an otherwise stock car thinking he's hard core) and a trick "show car" (whether it's for showing or not), where ground effects, hydros, big *** sound systems, real interior craftsmanship, and stylishly complex paint work abound. one is cool, the other is not. i don't think i have to elaborate more than that.

i thought that this forum was supposed to be a community of like-minded enthusiasts where people can come learn, share, and give positive feedback to one another, free of hostility and intolerance. it was, once. i'd like to see it return to that state again.

markb, i thought your car had some seriously cool stuff. i hope you up the ante on your RX-8, you'd make the forum proud.

as far as undercar lighting, i'd say "no" for a streetcar, as it's not only illegal, but if you plan to drive the car everyday (especially if you drop it a significant amout) you'll be replacing all that tubing on a weekly basis. not worth it, IMO. for a show car, hey, do as you please.
