Vented carbon fiber hoods and rain...
#26
I had this same question before I bought my hood, I called seibon and vis racing to ask if either sold the hood with a rainguard. Seibon said that the ts-style doesnt have one but vis racing said that their v-speed (identical to ts style) hood comes with a rainguard. that's my 2 cents.

Poor guy just wants his question answered and he gets the routine "DO A SEARCH" response. It doesn't help anything, really. I can understand that answering the same questions over and over again can get pretty annoying, but it definitely shouldn't justify being a *****; not to mention this specific issue hasn't really been discussed thoroughly enough to provide the OP with a good enough understanding.
Anyway, savedsol, I had the same question a while back and ended up searching for it as well; I didn't find much. One experienced owner said that water in the engine isn't a bad thing at all, and that it could even prove to be a "good" thing by "steam cleaning" the rotors, or something like that. It kind of makes sense, I guess, but I still wouldn't be comfortable driving with a vented hood in the rain without covers.
You know those storms everyone gets now and then, where it rains so hard you think your windshield might give out on you? I mean, come on. Imagine an open-vent hood in a scenario like that.

Dude that's just what the Seibon customer service rep told me, I live in CT and I wasn't about to let my engine get dumped on every other day, New England weather can be harsh. Anyway, Savedsol it looks like both VIS and Seibon provide rainguards for their hoods, but I would still call either depending on the actual model you want to get to make sure. Personally I would recommend getting one with a rainguard if for nothing else but piece of mind, besides it only takes a few screws to remove them. I put the VIS V-Speed on yesterday and the fitment was great, plus I was able to find it for cheaper than the Seibon. I also have the seibon rear lip on my car and I would say the fitment is about equal. So there you go, hope that helps.

people really need to actually look in their engine bays. Our bays are not some sealed box of cleanlieness. Water can get in from everywhere and during a rain storm even a completely stock bay is going to have water "dumping" into it from every angle.
As long as your fuse box and ecu are covered you can drive it through a carwash blasting water straight at the vents without an issue.
Why buy a vented hood and drive around with the vent's blocked off? That is the definition of RICE.
