The MazdaSpeed syle will resemble the one for the NSX you posted and will be fully functional. Looking forward to seeing you when you move down here. Another member to add to our growing local AZRX8 club.

Any updates on this, Vivid? Still planning production...? If so, do we have an ETA?

quick question, if there are vents doesn't water get in, and may possibly damage the car. very bad for daily drivers, isnt it.

One of the forum gods (I think rotarygod?) already dispelled this notion, claiming the seals/plastics on the engine would make the amount of rain water that could pass through any of these vents negligible.

There won't be any problems.

Any updates at ALL?

Rain water or forced water from car wash for that mater won't have an effect on the engine itself. As a matter of fact, every time I wash my car I take it to the power washer and spray down the engine cuz it gets real dusty hear. Never had a problem. Even with the K&N Typhoon. Small amounts of water will not do anything to the motor. If that were the case then the whole engine compartment would be completely sealed from the factory. Also, yes we are still planning on the vented hood thogh it is taking longer than origionally quoted. They are in route to us now and we're just waiting to take delivery. I'm still hoping for a pic as well so I can post it. Really when you think about it from the time I made the first post to now it really hasn't been that long so I guess I should be happy production was as quick as it was. But I can't help it. I want on of these hoods just as bad as the rest of you.

Man.. I am 2 months late on this thread Where have I been.....

I like the scott personally.. That air will rush out due to the opening in the front... The MS version will work but not as effectively as the scott I think..

How can it? The scott forces are in just as fast as it does out.. I would think the compartment wouldnt have a chance to get hot....

I prefer the 5th pic, looks like you could get more with the forced air induction. Who makes that one?

I liked the Scoot myself, too. Vivid has decided on production of the MSpeed hood, I think, pending a response to Mike's question. I really have to think long & hard about if I want to just go with the mspeed version......

Yeah same here.. It looks like the scott would work the best out of all the designs.. It seems like the others will just vent air that is consumed from the front bumper section of the car....

Rotary Extreme- Scoot hood...

Has he provided any timeline information...? Or is he still requiring ~ 20 people to pay up front to subsidize the risk of putting it into production?

Man, I figured as much. I knew I would take a little heat for the MS choice. Not to knock the scoot hood cuz it's a neet design but the MS is just as good and here's why. Better aerodynamics and air flow. If you've taken a close look at the radiator and it's posisioning it's mounted at a 45 deg angle towards the front of the car. This naturally forces the incoming air from the front bumper to direct itself in an upward motion as it passes through the fins of the radiator. Since the air is already traveling in an upward direction it natually wants to vent from the top. Usually the leading edge of a reverse vent has a small lip which creates a pressure pocket of air that in essence creates a vacume effect over the vent itself pulling the heated air out. The other nice thing is that the smooth lines of the hood are retained for asthetics and aerodynamics.

Like I said, both are good disigns and work. The MazdaSpeed is more traditional and has the asthetics that are most appealing to most people. Also, check out what kind of vented hoods pro race cars are using like Le Mans, JGTC, DRIFT and others. Really it comes down to personal prefference. I am mearly tring to give something more to offer the RX8 crowd and need to take into consideration a design that people will pay money for, those who will actually buy a vented hood.

good for you Huff

I will pay money for and will actually buy a vented hood :p

At the very least we will have two hoods to choose from, from two respectable vendors, competing to drive down the price so more of "us" can pay money for and will actually buy a vented hood

I'm a huge fan of the scoot hood, but if the mazdaspeed really does provide better cooling and aerodymanics I may have to reconsider that decision... either way, good thing to have a variety of choices!

Yeah I agree.. Choice rocks.. I'll definitely take a look at both and make my decision at that time.... I would prefer something more discrete (MS) but I really think the Scott will work better.. We'll see.

Now that I see it better, It looks like a MS type hood with the rotary indentation intact.

See the side pix? That raised portion takes away the graceful look of the front end.
