Is it very easy to steal the mazdaspeed spoiler?

I am planning to buy the Mazdaspeed spoiler as my b-day present but I am concern about people stealing it. It seems that the top part of the spoiler is held by four screws. Are those normal screws that anyone with a screw driver can unscrew them? Thanks~

i don't think it so easy, you see the bottom lip is stuck on pretty solid. even if someone tries to steal the spoiler it be very hard to get the whole kit itself off without having to spend a lot of time on it or poppin the trunk.

lmao thats some funny stuff .... errr you have to pop the trunk ... errr if they get into your car by smashing the glass ... then pop the trunk then take the take time to unscrew the screws ... then maybe ...lol

If they had a giant can opener, they could just cut off the trunk and run with it (and the spoiler)!

Mmmm... not a bad idea there!

But seriously... it is hard to steal any spoiler off the car really as they need to open the boot to unscrew all the bolts... my nismo rear spoiler has 5 bolts underneath.... but if you are talking about damaging it, that's way too easy to do to ANY car.

cheers,

richie

I think he is talking about th wing itself. Isn't it attached to the base w/ 4 screws?

Yup, that's how I read it too. But if it is indeed secured with 4 screws, I would think it would be easily resolved with a tiny spot weld or two on the bolts/nuts.

personally it would take a lot of time to take the spoiler off someone would have to steal your car and take the time with it. i don't know i know crooks would go through all the troubles for electronics/audio but not just for a spoiler, that is unless you have some emenies out there. and errrrrrrrr... yea

The wing wouldn't be much good w/out the base anyway.

Someone who has the MS spoiler--please look into this, because I was planning on stealing a spoiler for my birthday.

when i was at rev it up.. i check out the spoiler and it seems really easy to steal for the person who is lookin for it.

its 4 screws that are holding it on. if they know the bolt/screw size they will be prepared to steal it and it can be done in 10 secs if there are 2 people and the right tools

but i do like the idea of welding the screws on. once the spoiler is on i doubt id adjust it.

How does it attach to the car? Does it use the same mounting holes as the stock spoiler? I was thinking of getting one, and this issue has peaked my curiosity.

N5TEV,

theres a thread in here somewhere of someone showing a DIY installation of the mazdaspeed spoiler and he previously had a factory spoiler on the car... i did read it and to answer your question, yes it uses the exact same holes your factory spoiler uses and no additional drilling is required

but the above portion of the wing is held together with 4 screws... get a screwdriver and you can lift it off.

how funny I just read this thread- last week I went and saw alien vs. predator and I saw all these civics with just bases attached to their cars- I thought wow someone must have stolen all of these- blah blah blah I watch the movie come out and see this kid pull his wing out of his trunk and attach it to the pedestals with quick release pins! I actually thought this was pretty cool for certain situations. has anyone else heard about this or seen it>? do you think it can be done with the ms wing as well>?

wow
that cant be sturdy for those civic's
but no i dont think its possible(well anything is possible)to have the m/s wing come off.
if they want the wing that bad they can have it cant do much with out the bottom peice but if someone knows the value of the wing and some idiot wants to steal it would suck.

they were the larger quick release pins that are like a t- you push the button in and well, they weren't like hood pins- way more sturdy from what I saw- I just thought it was kinda cool

I've heard one interesting way to prevent people from taking out a screw. Replace the screw with a torx style screw, then glue a little ball bearing in the middle. When you actually want to take the screw out, get a little pick and pull the bearing out. Somebody said that did this on their BMX bike because pieces kept getting stolen off of it.
