Want to install my body kit myself

My local shop wants $3000 JUST FOR INSTALL!!! Not including the kit.

What do you think? Can I install a body kit myself? Tough?

Heres a summary of my experience.
I do my own mechanical work on my past cars, nothing huge, tune ups, oil changes, valve cover gasket, rocker arm adjustment once...
Did body work for about a year, bondo, painted some cars.
I have a custom motorcycle, do most of my own custom work.

Can I do a body kit?

How can I get documentation how to remove the bumpers, fenders ect?

Anyone ever get a kit from www.body-kit.com? Any good? Recommendations?

$3K to install a body kit is ridiculous.

Which body kit are you installing? If it's the Authentic MS, then yeah...you could definitely do that yourself.
If it's a replica or something different, you might run into fitment issues where you'd have to shave certain parts a little or maybe add compound to make it fit (bondo, etc)

There is a great Do It Yourself for removing the bumper in the D.I.Y. subforum.

damn man I wish you lived in stl , I could save you a ton.... It depends on what color you got but we could do it for no more than $1200.00... are you changing color or something?... that shops retarded.

Did their estimate include sanding, finishing, bondo and painting? I think the install part is the easy part. It's the prep, fit and paint work that costs the money. From what I've read unless you get a pre-painted kit like the Mazdaspeed kit you'll have to do the final fitment, sand, prep, paint yourself. Not a big deal if you're mechanically inclined but definitely more than just bolting it on.

Hey just check www.body-kit.com/install.html

Wrote so that you get some TIPS.

Its better to use bodyshop which has removed Rx8 Bumpers and fixed lots of Aftermarket Kits.

If you have any problems email me on dimanth@body-kit.com
