When I had my 03 Mustang, the hoodscoop on that was very similar. I had bought a V6, but wanted the scoop that came on the 8, so I bought it with my car...came in a box, and I just had to find someone to bolt it on. This Mazda one could prolly be done the same way...just make it fit to seat into the wedge shaped indent on the hood...

I tried installing the side vents, I am having a couple of fitament issues. There seems to be about a 10 to 15 degree twist in the vent which makes it hard to fit, I need to figue out how twist the carbon fiber back. 2nd issue the metal broke away from the carbon fiber. I am going to talk with them and see what they say.

I'll take the prototype hood with the front as well. I think it's a great look for the 8. Definately more agressive.

I'll take one in blue baby!

Funny, nearly eight months or so I asked the same questions about getting a custom body kit & hood that looked exactly like that. I talked to tons of people and no one was willing to take on the job without loads of cash that I didn't have . Maybe the air has changed.... Either way, I wish you better luck than I had getting this to materialize. If it does I'd be interested in picking one up depending on the price.

I talked to my carbon guys...they are more than happy to create this hood scoop in real carbon fiber if we have 20 buyers or more.

If we have a list of 20+ people interested, we can begin to make a prototype hoodscope first.

Final price for carbon fiber hood scoop will be determine by how long the process take to make the mold and carbon fiber material involve. :D

Sounds doable for that price range. How much work would it take to install, and how much would this cost on average? If people want these painted to match original factory paint & quality, will that be possible, and if so, how much extra would that be?

I went through this whole thread again and created a combined list of people that have expressed interest in this hood.

Installation can be done by a professional bodyshop or yourself. Installing the hood scoop would be like the same way you install a spoiler on the trunk. It require drilling several holes on the hood to tighten the bolts.

Painting the carbon fiber hood scoop is an option for anyone who wants to color match their vehicle. Any bodyshop can paint this material for around est $100.

To make the hood scoop fully functional instead of cosmetic , you would have to cut an opening on your OEM hood to let the air breath into the motor. I would leave this job to the pro at any bodyshop to tackle the cutting. Cost of labor rate vary on shops.

The lists of people interested look very promising. Once we have 20 or people sign up, we will start to make the prototype.

This may be a stupid, ugly, or stupid and ugly idea, but what if you add the MS Concept CF hood scoop to CF vented hoods like the VIS Revolver hood or the Seibon TS-II hood, which still have the rotary indentation in the hood. It may be overkill, but I honestly think it may be a hood unique to RX8's. Vents in the front for hot air, Rotary Hood Scoop in the rear to bring in cool air?

Just a thought...

Wouldnt the vent in the back suck in the hot air coming out the front?

Vents don't suck in air...

Vents, vent air out.

If you are talking about the scoop, it would bring cool air in and the vents would let hot air out.

I think the carbon fiber scoop would look nice with a set of the cabon fiber side vents

Hey all, just wanted to keep this thing alive. Just a few more people and hook-up shop could start the prototype.

This should get us going...

Can anyone think of how to make this scoop functional? I've seen certain cars put an intercooler right below a hood scoop. I think there is some room to play with. Opinions? Ideas?

PS: You read my mind maggotcorpse666. I was about to say the same exact thing. Come on people!
