The only part of the car that even requires the templates is the side flares, and sadly, i didn't keep them. The front dam and rear flares both simply have spots marked in the front and rear bumpers to drill. Very simple.

As for the hardware, all I can say is good luck. I don't think i could even dare to try and tackle it without ALL the hardware. Guess that's why i thought it was worth paying for new. However, I do have something for you. g18 k51 sj3. that's the part number for those rivits if you really want them. You should be able to order them at mazda, and if not, i could point you out to some mazda bodypart retailers that sell them.

However, I will mention that after taking the right side flare off to reattach it, it broke 2 of the 4 rivits when I pulled it off. Just using 2 of them and the tape as well as the bottom attachments, its more than secure.

Hey, good to hear back from you. Bummer you don't have the template still. Thanks for the part # for the rivets. I'm still working the guts up to try all of this without having all the pieces. (Can you blame me?)

Also still need to score a front air dam in Winning Blue. I saw a thread today re: some folks that have just painted their OEM front bumper (and rear too). Very interesting concept. Looked really good to me.

So, I guess I'm still trying to figure out what the game plan ought to be. I want the aero bits to all hit at the same general height, and without something body colored on the front, doing the rest now (assuming I could pull it off without all the hardware) doesn't make sense.

Thanks again! Have a great weekend.

Michael

I just did mine about a month ago... everything was easy for me... all the marks on the inside of the bumpers made things very simple to drill and line up.. as for the sides I tried to do the simple double sided tape and the scews and bottom clips without drilling the holes.. but I ended up with the front gap thingy too... So I had to take everything off and drill the holes I have a very slight gap but thats it... My whole install took only 4 hours... ???? I wasnt rushing...but I sort of have alot of hands on with kits... I think my V1 kit took a little longer... But after all was said and done... I was very happy with the kit and the installl...

I put on the air dam, RB oil cooler and AC screens, and fogs Friday night. Took about 5 hours all together. Didn't fool with unhooking the side marker plug ins just pulled the bulb out and stuck it back through a hole when taking the bumper off. The RB AC condenser screen brackets didn't line up with the screen holes and had to bend them to make it right. RB also left out the bolts to fasten the screen to the brackets but fortunately the OE screen had some in it that just barely worked. Bumper removal was not as bad as I thought it would be.
Thanks to everyone that has posted information to help us do it yourselfers!

As promised...

everything seems to be retaining to the body nicely. Even the part of the side flare that hasn't closed up completely seems fairly camoflaged by touchup paint.

for which part?

according to your signature, you wouldn't have much use for a DIY for the aero kit anyway...you already have it.

did you buy them new or used? and which parts are you looking to install?

I found that although the illustrations rather suck in the manual, they suffice just as well as most of the DIY. Also, i wouldn't dare drill into the side of my car without the side aero templates. Heck, even with them i was a little shakey.

I still do find it hard to believe that they couldn't find a less "flimsy" way of marking the drill holes. It really did baffle my mind at the time that i was gonna be boring 3/8" holes in the side of my $30K car without any prior knowledge of if/and or how the holes were gonna line up. I have to say that the final moment when i attached the first side had to be one of the most nerve racking moments i've ever experienced. You just don't know what o expect and PRAY they line up.

Just make sure that when you do get the templates, you hold the peices TAUT...cause ANY wrinkles, crinkles or otherwise in the paper will mess up your hole locations.

Just a lil tip for ya. Good luck with the installs bro.

Your install looks awesome! Mind if I ask where you bought your appearance package?

i wish so badly that i'd made copies of that template now. I've had at least 4 people ask/PM me about getting a copy. Your best bet would be one of 2 things.

1) Post a post up in either RX-8 discussion or in the Appearance section asking anyone who is getting ready to install or JUST recieved their appearance kit to make you a copy of the templates. They would have to be mailed, because sending them over the net means they have to scan them, which can very easily change their ratio and/or size. Obviously it almost goes without saying that original size/shape is VERY important here.

2) Head up to Mazda and ask about it. I believe that others have said that you have to order the skirts themselves to receieve the template but i just find it so hard to believe thats the case. They might be able to contact Mazda NA and get a copy of it for you.

I know this wasn't the immediate answer you probably wanted, but it's the best i can do from my side. Don't forget either...the install hardware is just as important as the templates, as they're nto exactly everyday peices you have just lying around the house.

No problem. purchased from rosenthal mazda for $970 shipped. This included the front dam, rear and side skirts, front splash guards and cargo net.

Enjoy!

Templates

Caaahhlvinn,

I was one of those 4 people that PM'd asking for the template. I have OEM side flares with no hardware and no template, and I just haven't taken the plunge to try the install at least without the templates.

I'm also trying to get a WB air dam, so until I take care of that, I guess I'm in no hurry to do the rest of the AP.

Anyway, if you end up finding any source at all for the template, please let me know! I've already offered to pay someone to send a copy to me. Nobody kept theirs after their install.

Hope things work out well for you!

Michael
