What color/paint calipers

I have a sunlight silver and im going to paint the calipers and rotor hubs in the next 2 weeks but i need to decide what paint/color to use. I want to do the calipers in a BRIGHT yellow. What paint would be better for that, G2 or Duplicolor? Additionally, i want to paint the rotor hubs, but im not sure if i want to do them black or silver, what do you guys think. I personally think black would help offset the yellow and help it stand out.

I also had another idea, and that was to 2-tone the calipers bright yellow and black- ill try to do some photoshops later to show how, but has anyone seen or done 2-tones to their calipers?

If you guys have personal experience with choosing paint and painting rotors on your silver 8's please share your knowledge. Thanks.

EDIT: What temp paint should i use, because im afraid 500 degree paint might not hold up.

i did duplicolor on my calipers. i still have to do the rotors (major rust removal makes me procrastinate on this more and more).

id be interested to see your photochop on the two-tone, never thought of that.....

Are both the G2 and duplicolor kits available with brush on or spray on? If not which is which?

I did the duplicolor kit and it was brush on which was alot better then the spray. I painted the lip of the caliper black, and inside portion white. The white was a spray paint. It is a harder paint job then the brush.

8 is enough did u take them off your car when you painted them with your brush, do i have to take them off if im going to brush on the paint. I was planning on taking them off, and am probably going to do that regardless of if i have to or not, but i'd just like to know if its possible to do it without taking them off.

I masked the rotors. Then removed the pads, and shims. A supporting the main caliper by itself, and painted the lip. I let it dry, the cover the entire rotor and masked off an area to spray paint.

Then I painted the caliper. A good way to support the Caliper is to grab stick put it on a shock sticking out perpendicular to the car. On the other end of a stick find a to support it. I used a clamp on the stick and clamped it to my light stand. This way I had the caliper supported and out of the way. I then masked off the piston and what ever i did not want painted. Then i spray painted the caliper.

I think my way was a bite long and not needed in hind site.

I was actually thinking about the same colors either bronze or gold. Since you guys dont really seem to think bright yellow would be the way to go, i think i will make it gold or something of the like. Did anyone paint the calipers on their silver BRIGHT yellow? please post pics if you can.

What brand of paint did you use for the silver? Was it brush on or spray on? What do you guys think would be the best brand and temp to use with gold paint on the calipers? I dont want dull colors, and it seems you all prefer to brush on the paint, so i would also prefer that.

Thats what i thought to. I may still go the vivid yellow caliper route, and paint the rorot hubs black. Do you guys think i should paint the hubs black or silver?

I painted my hubs and calipers black. I to took a grinder to the caliper brackets and made them smooth. Overall it looks good.

Smile

I used an angle grinder with a 120 grit sanding disk. It worked extremely well.

Now I've heard that you don't want to flatten the rough surface of the caliper becuase it helps with cooling, however I went ahead and flattened only the parts facing me. It made them look 10 times better and i def. recommend doing it. With the 120 grit disk you can flatten the surface of the caliper quickly(I took about a minute a caliper) without really worrying about taking too much off.

You can pick up a grinder at virtually any hardware store. They range from $20 to $100 and any one of them will do the job. I can't remember how much a disk is going to cost you, but they're cheap.

Oh and for your question about safety, As with any power tool you should be careful when using it because it can cause injury. It's nothing you should be nervous about using, especially with a sanding disk on. I have hit a knuckle or two with it in the past and it gave me a pretty good brush burn, but fingers are still intact.

Good luck and have fun,

-Nick

Wait...it might've been a 60 grit disk. I'd advise you to buy both and see which one you like to work with.
