See my avatar :D It's those 2 pieces that run horizontal over the black (fake) vent piece that's tucked behind your front wheel.

They are the aluminum fins in the front fender vents that Mazda sells as an accessory - 2 per side (fender).

They look great. Too bad they are so friggin expensive. It's just 4 little pieces of aluminum for crissakes.

Mine were $109 including $20 additional charge for a custom color (not aluminum and not chrome), shipped to my door with 100% perfectly clear install instrx. It's a 15 minute job if you're slow.

One of the best buys out there for less than $100

They're well worth it at any price... they give the fender area much needed character. On the black RX-8's, I feel they're almost necessary or you don't even see the definition in the fender vents.

You paid $109 for yours, right? I'm gonna take a wild guess here that $109 is more than $100, or are my math skills that rusty? Color me confused...

I think in the mazda accessory catalog they were $250 so a mere $109 doesn't sound so bad. There were some on eBay a couple of weeks ago so that might be worth a try.

What makes you say the black vents are fake?

She said 109 was with an added cost for a custom color, that would be 89 for standard(probably aluminum or chrome)

Strakes are aerodynamic "fences" that guide airflow. You will see them on GE powered engines on the fwd side of the engine cowling and on some executive jets.

on smaller airplanes strakes are located in fron of the horizontal stabilizer and they increase the surface area of the hoirzontal stabilizer in order to keep the nose pitched down and prevent a flat spin in case of a stall.
