'06 MX-5 Miata Shift **** in my RX-8

Are any of you less than satisfied with the feel of your rotor-shaped shift ****? I like the way it looks, but didn't like the feel very much. Just recently, I actually turned it backwards so that I was pulling on the laces and pushing on the flat side. However, at this point, I had already won an ebay auction on an MX-5 Miata (new 2006) shift ****.

When I test drove the new MX-5, it occured to me that I liked the rounded shift **** MUCH better and, since it's a Mazda part, would likely screw right on in place of mine and still be weighted appropriately. It has the nice aluminum-look bezel around it, it has a 6-speed pattern (although the reverse is in a different place), and it's leather-wrapped.

I put it in and I love it. I don't have pics yet, but it looks completely stock. It's so much more comfortable to use in a normal grip, but you can actually grip it with your palm on top and it's equally as comfortable. I got mine for $32, including shipping, but I believe that was an outstanding deal. The retail is close to $90. Just thought I'd share :D

Just an FYI.... the 1999-2005 Miata shift ***** will fit too. And for that matter any aftermarket Miata shift ****. The major parts of the tranny are essentially the same with some internal strengthening.

I put my polished Voodoo **** on for awhile but, it got really hot (Mazda should remarket as a heated center console and I couldn't drive comfortably in the really hot summer months. It looks great though, as long as you keep it shiny. The brushed one would look even better!

I don't know for sure, but I would doubt that this was the same transmission. The Miata's tranny was designed for ~80 less hp. We know that it's not the exact same tranny, obviously. It may just be a beefed up version of the Miata's, though.

We use the last gen miata 6 spd tranny. The new miata tranny is probably a little different
