1x10" or 1x12"?
This is my first step into the car audio world, and I just wanted your opinions on what sub to get. I'm getting a 1000 watt MAC amp and the only options they have here are for a MAC 10" and 12" subs. Interestingly, the 10 is more expensive than the 12, by quite a bit. I originally planned on going with a 10 based on most posts here saying a 12 is too much for a RX8, and also I play bass guitar so I know that bigger speakers aren't necessarily better for response. I listen to mostly DnB, metal, a lil bit of dubstep, a lil bit of rap, and random other stuff. I'm getting it mostly for DnB and dubstep, I feel like I'm missing out of half the music.
I want something that won't drown out the stock Bose speakers, but I definitely want to be impressed. If I'm spending this much money and putting time into it, I wanna make sure its done right the first time.
Here is a link to the 2 I am getting. I've never heard of MAC, and its hard to find any info on them, so if anyone has any personal experience that would he great.

Is that link correct? To the MPX 4000? If so, that's a 4-channel amp and is not built to power subwoofers. And certainly no 1000 watt amp. Not sure where you got that from.
Doubt you're going to find anybody on here with experience with MAC. They're not sold in the states. Probably just Germany.

Hmmm it is the 4000. My friend showed it to me and explained how it would work, and his is wired the same way, although it is a different model. As far as I understand, you splice a converter into the rear 2 speakers then run the RCA cables into the amp, correct? I don't understand how it won't work. Are you saying the amp isn't electrically able to power a sub? Sorry for the noob questions, I'm trying to learn.

Well the main reason I want to go with the MAC amp is he's selling it really cheap to me, $50. If that one isn't going to work though, I'm wondering if I should just go with a Basslink or Bazooka.
EDIT: I did a bit of research and it looks like wiring one sub to a 4 channel amp is a bit on the retarded side. Sooooooo thanks to the Crutchfield site I'm thinking about getting 2 10's instead. Do you guys think its ok to run a 4 channel amp for 2 subs? Also, are the boxes you find on ebay worth looking at? This is starting to cost a lot more than I was expecting...
Here's the ebay box I'm looking at - http://cgi.ebay.com/ZEnclosures-Mazd...ht_2255wt_1139

That amp is no where near 1000 watts. Not even close to 500. And it's certainly not an amp you should power subwoofers with. You get what you pay for in this industry. That said, even a no-name 1-channel amp would outperform that 4-channel on a pair of subs. If you're going cheap with this.... I might suggest Planet Audio AC1500.1M. Planet Audio has been around for years and used to make some high quality stuff, but I suspect they've fallen off recently due to the economy and started appealing to the cheaper crowd. I'm sure that amp doesn't output it's full rated power, but even if it only does 600WRMSx1@2ohms, it's a steal for that price and worlds better than the MAC amp you linked. More efficient design too. (class d versus a/b)
That box on eBay is worth every penny. Many people, including myself, have used them before. Built very well and the fitment is perfect. I'd also suggest checking out the one with the amp panel too.

I really don't know how much bass you're looking for or how much you're looking to spend, but you might just think about adding a powered 10" Bazooka tube and calling it a day. The BTA10250D is everything you need in one. Just run an 8g power wire from the battery. Get signal from the two rear speakers. Done and done. I've heard the 100W model installed several times and it bumps damn well. 5 times the amount of bass the Bose system has..... easily. The 250D should be enough for anyone but pure rap and bassheads.

Thanks a lot for the info, I really appreciate it. I don't want to go for the cheapest parts for something like this, music is one of my passions and I want to do it right. I'm going to wait until I can afford to get exactly what I want before I put a lot of money into it. I think the Bazooka will be able to tide me over until I can upgrade the whole system. Again, thanks for the info!
