2 or 4 10s?
Hey all,
I received my 4080 boxes today and had a few question for the bass freaks before selling my Z-Enclosures box. I know that there are formulas for this, but was hoping for some quick answers from those in the know.
I have never had more than 2 subs in any of my cars, but while test fitting the 4080s I noticed something that looked pretty good to me..........
.........The 4080 and the Z-Enclosures boxes look pretty good together.
Right now my system is pretty much SQ oriented w/ crystal clear mids and highs coming from my Eclipse Components in the front doors and rear deck w/ some RF tweets in the sail pods raising the sound stage a little. I am used to ported boxes, so I find my lows quite lacking. I plan to upgrade to either JL 10W6s or Eclipse SW8000s w/ 500W to each in the 4080 boxes.
Now, taking trunk space out of the equation (since you can have all 3 boxes out in less than 2 minutes), here are a couple of questions:
1. How much advantage or disadvantage in SQ would there be in 2 extra 10s?
2. Would SQ be affected negatively if 2 subs are in slightly different sized boxes than the other 2?
3. How much advantage in SPL would 2 extra 10 w/ 500W each be?
Any other recommendations or input is appreciated.
Thanks,
jst

Problem is, your facing your two side subs against each other. Not good on subs or sounds. Sound Quality will lessen due to the fact you have 4 subs fighting for little airspace in the trunk. I would just go with two 10's and a good amp.

There will not be a problem for the subs or the sound facing 2 subs at each other in this application. You may have a point on the small air space for 4 subs, but since our trunks are not totally sealed, I wouldn't think this would be a problem either. If it is, this could easily be fixed.
Thanks for your input.

I thought about doing this.. but the cost of JUST the boxes was crazy high.. plus the cost of the subs and anps..
it just wasn't worth the price in my head..
as for your question.. if you want SQ this doesn't sound like the best way.. if you want SPL - this should ROCK!

Double cone area+ double wattage does not equal double SPL. Beyond that much I'm not sure til I hear it, and see how you set your x-overs, how well everyhtign is powered.
I have had multiple subs facing different directions, withone set ported and one set sealed, but it's hard to compare because it was a pair of 8's and a pair of 12's, and they hardly ever touched the same frequency.
