4080 install

Can anyone direct me to, or help me figure out how this box is suppose to be installed? I'm not even sure I got the correct side, but then again it may just be me as I am not great with puzzles.

Thanks in advance.

I think I just figured out how it goes in, and it looks like he sent me the wrong side

Well I did get the wrong side which I am very unhappy about, but I am encountering another issue now.

Is the silver tab suppose to fit flush against the chassis and go underneath of the rubber weatherstrip? I have about 1/2 gap between the two and for the life of me it will not push any further.

Yes, exactly.

That's strange - I had no such problem, the box fits like a glove.

I had my fiance upload this picture

You see the red chassis, part of the stock liner, and then the tab. I can't get it any closer no matter what I do.

My PC out here in Iraq can't view the pic. But I can tell you that you pull the rubber guard up, slide in the box, put the rubber back down OVER the tab. If it doesn't fit in flush check to see if anything is in the way (cables or something like that). Congratz on the purchase, they are amazing speaker boxes.

Unfortunately I can't get the metal tab anywhere close to the rubber.

There is nothing obstructing it from going back besides the box not fitting correctly. This is frustrating as I spent more than I wanted hoping to get something nice, and now I have the wrong side and a box that doesn't fit.

send it back. The guy who makes it is a sound businessman. Though that sounds really unusual as he just uses a premade mold and I've never heard of this before with the box. Then you will get both problems solved in one swoope.

Actually, mine had a similar gap (passenger side box). I couldn't get it any closer to the stripping, so I just unscrewed the metal piece. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that my entire rear was rebuilt and 4080 made the box with narrow tolerances? Not really concerned myself, though.

Well the problem is that it is fairly loose and not really secured in there. I emailed them last night as instructed by 4080, still waiting on a response though

where are you located?
I have my 4080 box on that side as well and it was a bit of a trick to get flush, but it is definitely flush now and very secure.

I've got two 4080 boxes and I remember that they are pretty tough to get into place. Just takes some elbow grease.

I've been trying that, and I'm far from a weak guy. I've almost heard what sounds like cracking and im afraid that I will crack the fiberglass.

Should I keep trying to power it in? I'm not sure how strong fiberglass is. I also still haven't gotten a reply from them about the box yet

4080 isn't exactly "Mr. Speedy" when it comes to responding to PM's. It's not a knock on the guy, it's just my experience (and others). He will respond, just give it some time.

Hmmm.... this is an interesting dilemma. I would try taking it completely out again and try wiggling it in again. I remember I took a wrong angle the first time I tried and got stuck partway like you did. It's tough to explain but just keep backing out and trying again. Not too much force though, fiberglass is tough but it can crack if pushed too hard.

I won't interpret that post!

I'm gonna keep taking it out and see if I can't just manage to wiggle it in. I install windows here and there so I may try some of the prying I do to fit windows in.

Installing the box should not require any excessive force. If everything is OK, it should slide in place, fit snugly and remain there during driving.
You don't want to somehow get it in with force and then have the same fitment issue in case you have to remove it (like when changing a taillight bulb or do any work behind the rear trim panel in the trunk).
The best thing is to discuss this with 4080 and either get a replacement in case there's a problem with that particular box or figure out what causes it not to slide in place properly.

Diem,

I requested that you send me pictures of the corner of the trunk and the box. I want to resolve this issue for you.

For those who may be wondering, I have possibly created a solution. On the metal bracket, I backed the screws out just enough, and took a semi-thick piece of cardboard and wrapped it in black tape. I put that down in there to create a spacer and got it close enough to slide under the weatherstrip. Time will tell if it will hold or not.

Ainslie will probably replace the box for you if the fitment isn't correct. I would just keep in touch with him and see what he says.

After careful consideration I have decided to post about this one last time.

Summary:

- I was sent the wrong side.
- Box I was sent did not fit correctly.
- I had to modify the metal tab.
- The metal tab caused a grounding issue while touching the chassis (fixed that)
- Carpet is too light (not a problem)
- Send 4080 two PMs and 2 or 3 emails. I got one response and never heard from him again.

I am generally very easy to please, but this time was different. My sub also sounded better in my Q-Logic wedge box.

Overall, this box is not worth $300. If you do buy it, don't expect any help from him(them?). I would recommend you build one or have someone local do it.
