6CD features

I'm wondering how many have looked closely at the images on the RX-8 (USA version) Mazda website and seen the CD contros?
On the left is I think it was a button with a name that implied to me "feed CD" - insert or something. On the close up of the auto shifter you can see something like "DSC ^" and DSC x (down arrow). That seems to imply changing discs. I've heard UK and Aussie folks saying they have 6CD. The UK RX-8 website isn't to the 'order' point and has less images than the US version has.
Are we all still speculating that the 6CD will be an option on the US side?

So far, no 6 CD indash for the US. However you can always voice your complaint (as I already have) by emailing rx8orders@mazdausa.com. They listened to us with the Mazda6's packages, so hopefully they will do the same again.

I emailed my concerns about the CD player to my MAZDAUSA RX8 customer service rep and got this response:

"The 6 Disc CD player is an accessory only, it would have to be purchased through the dealership, and the dealership would install it. It will be available to anyone who purchases an RX-8, as an accessory though the dealer. The dealer would have to advise you of the price once the product is available. We currently have no MSRP for it. "

I put in my plug this ought to be a reward/bonus to those of us with enough faith to have already ordered the RX8 since it was not an option on the pre-order list. I shudder to think what the dealer is going to want for it! $500?

rx8 rep

You mentioned your Mazda USA RX-8 rep - would that be Willam Zdan or someone else at rx8orders? He's always been the person to respond to my inquiries there.

Not William. My RX8 orders customer rep is Staci Brock.

I wonder if RX8 orders is even at Mazda? Could be an out-source service. Maybe it's only one person (multiple names) with a whole lot of reference material from Mazda. So any answer we get that we don't like might actually be insufficient data. Yeah, that's the ticket. The 6-disc WILL be standard in the US.

The April Road & Track listed the in-dash 6-disc changer as standard equipment for the RX-8.

R & T test car

My assumption is that the R&T test model was a pre-production model and that as with other 'facts' they gather from driving and / or talking to Mazda they may have missed that even though their pre-production test model had a 6CD changer that in fact the production may not have that as Standard Equipment. Granted, it appears to be in Canada and England but to date it doesn't appear it will be in the USA.

I would bet money that the US gets the in-dash 6 CD unit as well.

I don't know why they would bother making a bunch of custom different head units. The only audio option is the Bose and that is handled by Bose's own external electronics. The headunit is the same.

The Car and Driver article made note of their test car being pre-production, but he Road and Track car was reviewed as if it was a production model.

The information given in the specifications page even mentioned that the Grand touring package would have the moonroof eventhough their test car didn't.

I think all of the specifications listed in the R&T article will be on the production units. Their list was very thurough.

My understanding is that the US market will be getting a single CD player in the Bose system and the 6 CD player will be available as an accessory. However, in Canada the 6 CD player is standard equipment. :D

I will bet you one shinny red penny that that isn't the case.

Everyone will get the in-dash changer.

I bet we get the 6 CD changer in the premium Bose system. No stereo today could be considered premium without a changer. I bet it'll play MP3 discs, too.

As far as I know, the stereo is the same as in the Mazda6, just with different AudioPilot settings for the different car. In the 6, the 6CD is an option, as is a Tape Deck, or MP3 player.

From the new "printable version" specs and features list shown at www.mazdausa.com, everyone gets a single disc in-dash "changer"(?)

I think I owe ZoomZoom a shinny red penny.

You noticed the same thing I did - a single disc "changer". That is a contradiction in terms. Maybe, there's still hope.

Also - they list the 6CD and the tape player as 'modular' I believe it said - so at the minimum the stock head unit (single CD)should be able to be replaced with the 6CD unit and / or tape player unit. But... they didn't list the 6CD as an option either.
