Yeh, I was looking up some stats on the TT, cause when I was driving it the TT seemed heavier than the 8 and slower to accelerate, but the 0-60 is about 7.3 on the TT and 5.9 on our 8's so a pretty big difference. I'm sure if you added aftermarket parts on the TT, you'd be able to get that thing flying, such a small car.

Wasnt there a magazine that did a comparison between a TT, 8, and stang. And the TT wound up being pretty quick..but they did say that 8 was a very fun drive.

Alright guys, I just got back from the audio shop and the process is finally over! I picked up the car today and everything works. The stock deck is mounted in the trunk, the mold is painted and finished, and everything looks great. I am extremely happy with how this turned out. It is smooth and matches perfectly with our pieces by our window controls. Here are the pictures of the finished product!

I think it's safe to say you are the envy of most RX-8 owners!

VERY nice job. Congrats. How does it look in the trunk, with the stock deck sitting there?

Is the installer willing to make copies of that piece and sell them individually?

I talked to him before and he was saying how difficult it would be to mass produce something like that and then distribute them. It took them a lot of work to do it, so he said that it will basically just be a special job for those who come in. The stock deck right now is being held by that strap in the back of our car right now, but an enclosure will be made soon for it and it will be in the corner of the trunk.

wow that looks really good!!! how much did it all end up costing you(the labor, not the actual alarm/screen/electronics) including the glassing/the paint the electrical work, etc

I cannot reveal the price for the labor because it was a lot cheaper than it should have been. In the end, he said he should of charged me $1500 for labor, but it was a large portion less than 1/2 of what he was supposed to charge me. I really got away with the labor charge, but now that he knows how hard an RX-8 is, basically a learning experience for him too, so it worked out for the both of us.

No, he said it should have been around $1500 for labor charge for me, but he only charged me a good amount less than 1/2 of $1500 because he didn't expect the job to be hard, so I really got away with how much labor was supposed to be.

The placed the stock deck in the trunk where those straps are for the time being, they are going to relocate it in the corner of the trunk by the taillights there and make a enclosure for it.

The amount of fabriaction can differ from vehicle to vehicle. My dash bezels are much more involved than the great job shown a page back. I too would be charging a good amount of $ for the job. A good paint job is next on the list, 4th time lucky for me? Paint and time for it is not cheap. The actual manufacturing of the unit and the layup of the glass and bondo is easy, as is the deck removal. It just takes time and lots of it. $1500 US is not out of line at all.

Can you take some pictures of the factory head relocation? I know it's not the final spot, but I'm still curious to see what it looks like.
