Lightbulb Adding interior lights

Just got my new 8 last Saturday and I’m already tearing it apart. I bought some red neon lights to go above the drivers and passengers feet. At first I was going to connect them to the running lights so that they would be on while I’m driving at night. Then I thought it would also be nice if they went on with the dome light. I sat and thought about which one I liked more…. Then I noticed that the blue LED’s in the gauge cluster do both, they’re on with the running lights, dome lights and they stay on for a few seconds after you lock/unlock the car. So I thought I could rely into that, I pulled the gauge cluster out and started to test wires trying to find the one connected to the LED’s….well no luck. Any help here, where is that wire? Is it possible that the LED’s run under 12 volts because I did find two wires that were 2 and 5 volts? Also, if this doesn’t work, does anyone know an easy place to tap into the dome light circuit?

Just a suggestion in case no one else gives you the response you are looking for ...

Mazda makes a factory set that you can buy for like 80 bucks. No, I am not suggesting you purchase those but I noticed on Rosenthals website that for many items they have install instructions posted on their site. Unfortunatly they do not show the instructions for the lights but they might be able to email you instructions or give you an idea as to where they should be wired. Or you could just play dumb and go to your local dealership and tell them you are interested in the lights but had a few questions first about how and when they turn on, where they are wired into etc...

I know this is not what you were looking for in a response but as a last effort it might help.

Ok, after tearing the door panel off, I now know that the drives door has a blue wire with a red stripe which is linked to the dome light circuit. So, if anyone else wants the install red under dash lights, look for that wire coming out of the door jam, you can’t miss it, it comes out of a rubber sleeve.
